ELL Teacher trying One-on-One Adult tutoring for 1st time

Post by JenLaub » Wed Feb 25, 2004 4:42 pm

Hi Everyone!
I have been teaching middle school ELL students now for 3 years. This year, starting next week, I have taken on a one-night-a-week tutoring position for an adult male. He has beginner level English skills and is in the States for good at this point and would like to learn some basic English.
Any tips, suggestions, advice, etc. for someone who has never taught English to adults before?

Find out why he wants to learn English, what his weak points are, and how good he is at English. What does he consider to be "basic English"?
