Cheated by Korean
Hi Halim,
If you’re serious about the way you have been treated by the Korean government or their teaching operations then I would suggest you do make your case available to other teachers to read. I would also suggest you post your complaint on any of the SE Asian teaching sites. Take it to the British Council as well. However I must advise you that unless you present your case in a coherent and orderly manner no one will take you seriously. What exactly did they do to you and your family? How much did they steal? And who exactly is 'they'? Your case should at least include answers to these central questions.
Sallam.

Not taken in....
Hey all!
I'm not taken in by this publicity stunt! I can't see any other connexion between this cry in the dark and the Web-business thing found at:
www.halim-hosting.com
except the spelling errors in both. A curious way to get people on this forum to look at a site that maybe we never would have. I had a moment and browsed the site, even thought about bookmarking for future reference for a web page I'll be needing in a year or so, but well.
peace,
revel.

Good afternoon all.
If one wants to know what kind of man I am, I would suggest that my posts on this forum be reviewed. They would give much more information than my earlier post on this thread. But don't worry, I'm not offended by the reaction received. My mind does indeed sometimes work slowly, but my heart has nothing to do with the issue.
So, halim, set me right, take the advice offered by EFLwithlittleones, be coherent and give us a few more details. I, myself, have received mails from unknown people claiming massive social injustice and asking for help, have even seen entire websites dedicated to this type of occurance on the internet. Show us that you are not one of them.
Don't worry about your spelling, I wasn't basing my incredulance on a few misspelled words, but rather on a big lack of information. I hope this doesn't go on forever, but have been reading Agatha Christy novels and this might just be an interesting mistery to be solved. Did the butler do it?

Since May...
Good morning.
Well, let's see if the internet "Miss Marple" can make heads or tails of this sad story.
First of all, whatever happened to halim, happened before May of this year. I have found his lament on two other sites dated in May. One is a Korean film site and the other is a message board service, if you want to have a look:
http://www.koreanfilm.org/dc/dcboard.ph ... =392&page=
http://www.voy.com/46348/1275.html
From his own words here, seems that he tried to set up a business for himself, maybe in Egypt (he mentions the Korean Embassy in Egypt), and part of the set up included a lap-top computer that cost him some $1560. Here is where the Korean supplier comes in. It is not clear if there were delivery of the second hand computer or not, but evidently, either he did not receive it, or it did not work to his satisfaction. Since the problem was with a supplier from Korea, halim goes to the Korean Embassy in Egypt in the hopes of getting his own back. They ignore him.
Meanwhile, he loses his only client because he does not have this lap-top. He had invested his last $1560 in this lap-top and now he has nothing. No money. No client. No small business. No family. His wife has divorced him. He wants justice.
We do not know the following information:
The name of the supplier we should avoid ordering lap-tops from.
Besides leaving these messages here and there, the efforts halim has made to right this wrong.
The efforts halim has made to right his own life.
I don't have enough info, I'm afraid, to be able to solve this one! Why go to an embassy in order to solve a supplier problem? Why buy a Korean lap-top when living in Egypt? What was this small business that would fail totally due to this lap-top problem? Did his wife actually divorce him because he lost his business? How long has this suffering been going on? Does halim really believe that he will get anything through bombarding message boards with his woes? And, finally, why on earth did he choose a ESL teacher's message board, or the Korean film board (is it because the word "Korean" can be found in both?) Finally, why doesn't he use the computer that he has (he evidently has a computer) to recover his business? If he had only one client, then it's time he got out and got more, so losing one doesn't mean losing everything.
Sorry, too many loose ends in this one for me to believe it at this time.
peace,
revel.

Thank you or your sleuthing, Revel. It's bad enough he has to post on a board that has nothing to do with his problem, but I find it extremely irritating to see the same post in every forum. Most of us read more than one forum, so it turns into just plain spam. I think this is the second time we've had it, too.
Fortunately....
Hey everyone.
Fortunately, these fall sooner than others. Don't know how far we can get this one to go, we'll see.

A good Therapist
Thanks Revel for presenting many more relevant questions. My language nose smells a raett. If Halim is Korean he certainly doesn't have a Korean name and if he is Arabic his understanding of syntax doesn't tally with his spelling errors which in my view, seem suspiciously v.poor. In any case the loss of a wife and the loss of a laptop seem to hint at perhaps a deeper more personal conflict...and this site is for EFL teachers. Let us refer the patient to a good therapist and talk instead about lesson ideas. I'm building a kindergarten bilingual literacy syllabus and would enjoy reading any suggestions related to teaching high frequency structural morphemes. Viva bambini!

A little sympathy?
Hello all!
First to halim. I am a child of this earth and being proud of it or not seems irrelevant to me, but that's just how I avoid getting depressed when I see the pride demonstrated by the people in the country where I was born and how it has oh so recently been manifested. halim is perhaps naieve to assume that none of us have been unhappy customers....though I would never go to the Spanish Embassy to complain about my dental work just because my dentists are Spanish. I have indeed gone to consumer organizations, though.
The pity is, unless one shows halim complete, undeniable sympathy, one is a bad person, a bad teacher, a bad whatever, with bad words that he, for respect for the forum won't use. I suggest that another way for showing respect for the forum is not to bombard it with these messages and then tell us that we are bad. Sounds like George W on the White House steps shouting "It's WRONG!!" (sorry to any Bush fans). I don't think any of us feel like judges or gods (well, maybe a little when we are defending our linguistic positions in Applied Linguistics....
) so I take exception with those comments, they seem out of line here.
ESLwithlittleones is right, this isn't the place to deal with this, I comment on it because it is an (fortunately) occasional occurance and in some communities there is a moderator who cuts these folk out rapidly, if only for the clutter they leave about the message boards (lorikeet's valid remarks, for example). And in the end, unless one feels like some give and take, or wonders if this one might really be worth trying to help, the best policy is what we do with the really young and the really old when we want them to just be quiet: we ignore them. They might shout a bit louder for a while, but then they realize that they are not getting what they want in that way and ought to find another.
ESLwithlittleones (can I shorten your nick to ESLwith?), your suggestion is nice. I would refer you to posts that I have done in the Pronunciation thread in this forum for general ideas. The truth is, though I specifically work with little ones in my academy (I am the first ESL teacher they have in this academy and my work is teaching them basics, even behavioural basics) I have not shared any of my work with the littler ones on this board. Soooo, I'll give it some thought and will open a discussion thread in the appropriate section of this forum, hope we coincide and get some good ideas for this upcoming school session.

I wasn't going to reply but as lots of people have, I will too. I hope that we can keep this to one forum, though. Since it seems that this forum is the best since it seems it is just a way to advertise your company.
What exactly do you do for a living? It does seem rather strange that the web hosting company has your name. Can you tell us that you absolutely have nothing to do with the web-hosting company except for email? You clearly have access to the internet. Do you have your own connection or do you use internet cafes?
Your post is racist and badly targeted. Please tell us the name of the supplier. If you don't know the name, it's not surprising that the Korean government can't help you. But of course none of this happened anyway.
This has happened twice as Laurikeet said, I know because recently I put a post in the English for special purposes section. I was asking for information that I really need to know. The next day, your post pushed my important post further down the list.
