Evil or Very Mad I will look forward to the day when CELTA is an old style English teaching certificate found in old backwater woods places and TESOL is widely recognized as the standard.

I doubt that it will because of one basic fact. A CELTA holding individual has specific, predictable teaching skills... employers know what they are getting. Every other certificate - by any name or source country - is different, so the employers haven't a clue.

It is likely that about half of them turn out teachers who are equal or superior to CELTA holders and half that maybe read a few chapters in a text and practiced teaching their fellow classmates for about 15 minutes.

Lots of teachers have spouses. I do. But qualifications, experience, and nationality matter. If you are just completing a TEFL course, particularly if it is online and/or does not include supervised teaching practice with real students, you are unlikely to find a job that will include a spousal visa anywhere. Entry level quals and no experience don't equate to good jobs in today's market.

Spiral 78 my question is not very close to your comment, but you might have more experience to know the answer to a job-related question of mine than myself.

I have been surfing the forums of the café for a while. Right now I am in the process of searching a job in the Middle East. I live in Ukraine. I have a double citizenship: Ukrainian and Hungarian. I have seven years of teaching experience after my BA in English. I also have an English Master's and PhD in language pedagogy.

I have already submitted several job applications, but I don't even get answers to them. Is the reason for it that I am not a citizen of UK, USA, NZ or Australia? Or are there other reasons, as well? Can you please help me with this dilemma...?

Yes, it's very likely your nationality is the issue, especially for job ads specifying applicants be native speakers from certain English-speaking countries.

This is par for the course.

Most likely.

Email etiquette is not a universal. What might seem cold and rude to you may have a completely different view by another. As they can choose between resumes, what chances do you think you have of being responded to?

Most of the job ads I have seen in Middle East countries, specify the nationality. Does that also mean that I don't even have a chance to get into the Middle East language education platform? Or might it mean that I have to surf the job ads on some other websites?

That's the reality. But obviously, if you see that rare ad that doesn't specify nationality, then go ahead and apply.

Thanks for the encouragement! By the way do you think that I might have more chances at on-site job fairs vs. the online job application procedure?

'Encouragement' wasn't my intent, but anyway... Why do you think that would increase your chances? If the job postings you see at job fairs, on websites, in newspapers, wherever, require US, UK, Aussie, etc., nationality, you're still out of luck. Frankly, even if you see an ad that doesn't state nationality, you can't be sure the employer has a requirement or preference for certain nationalities.

Thanks, anyway! Perhaps I might have to consider searching EFL job in other regions!
