| Sorry, I just wanted to ask another question. I read on another job offer that a one off furniture allowance is given to a candidate who is arriving for the first time in KSA, is this something that someone working for Al Hussan can apply for? |
FYI: A one-time furniture allowance is usually provided in direct-hire situations that also include a monthly housing stipend.
Check your employment contract to see which allowances are given, or email your contact person for clarification about Al-Hussan's housing provision. But seriously, don't count on getting a furniture allowance since it would eat into the company profits. (Keep in mind these contracting companies are for-profit businesses; their goal is to make money rather than spend it on employees.) |

Fewer and fewer companies offer furniture allowances now as their profit margins are tightening and payments from government universities are delayed.
You cannot apply for a furniture allowance. It is either specified in your contract ir it isn't.
If it is in your contract, you will recieve it when you move out of company accommodation and start getting your accommodation allowance. |

I suppose I can cross out furniture allowance, as NS stated checking the contract. There's no mention of it on there.
I also wanted to ask, do teachers tend to take their holiday at the end of their contract? so that way you're not paying for an additional round trip to KSA. |

| Holidays are fixed and the main one is the summer vacation. You will usually get your bonus and holiday pay before you leave in June. Check with your contact for full details. |

I don't know what exactly you expect me to confirm. You obviously know someone who works here, so you know as much as I do.
There have been security cameras installed in the downstairs area and the office where this incident occurred. |

Be open. That wasn't the only incident. A female teacher was also sexually assaulted in Al Hussan's accomodation by the Al Hussan building manager. Furthermore, there have been other assaults although not by Al Hussan staff. A few security cameras here and there will not stop these individuals. The above incident that I've just mentioned occurred away from where these new security cameras are.
People have a right to know all this. There is no point sugar coating things. If you are aware, then mention it and mention both sides so people can come to a fair judgement.
Good luck. |

Again, you seem to be well informed, so why do I need to say anything more!
The cameras were installed after the incident though. It was one of the reasons the female teachers pushed for them.
And yes, there have been incidents within the building, but as I was not involved in any of them, I can't say anything more than what you've already said because I don't know anything more. |

| I take it from reading this thread that KSU has shared accomodatioon, and it sounds terrible. Do all unis have shared accomodation? |

For clarification, contracting companies, not KSU, hire/employ EFL teachers. I doubt any require teachers to live in shared housing but rather, individual apartments usually in employer-designated buildings. Otherwise, they're given a housing allowance to choose where they want to live. |

OK that is much clearer. So it is the accomodation of the contracting company that needs to be checked rather than the university |

Yes, because the company (e.g., Al Hussan, ICEAT, SBC, etc.) is the employer, while KSU is the project worksite. |

That's fine. I am not suggesting you know anything more. The point that I am trying to make is you gave a summary of Al-Hussan and it was fairly in-depth. Great...However, you missed out on key areas (which I've mentioned above). Hence, I told you to be more open.
These are not minor issues, as I am sure you will agree. Safety and security is of great important and if you were aware of these incidents then why didn't you mention it previously...So please bear that in mind in the future. |

SBC have shared accommodation for female teachers. Own bedroom and own bathroom but shared living and cooking spaces.
Same applies to direct hire at PNU. |

Thanks for the reminder that the housing situation can be particularly limiting for female teachers, depending on the employer. I knew a few teachers hired by SBC back in 2011 who found the housing situation at PNU to be a pain in the tukas. Dining and some living rooms in the villas they shared were being converted into bedrooms in order to squeeze in more teachers. That practice stopped after much protesting.
The housing situation is another one of those benefits job seekers need to get clarification on during interviews and when they receive their pre-employment agreement. |

Prince Sultan University does the same (own bedroom/bathroom with shared living spaces) for both men and women.
With regards to limits for female teachers, it can be a fight for single women to get housing allowances. The policies at the contractors vary from year to year and also depend upon to whom you apply for the allowance. Persistence pays off. Find the right man to ask (yes, man) and you will get it but there are many layers of mis-management to navigate before you can reach the person with the decision making power. |
