Hello,
I came to America as a child and I want to return to Poland and teach English. I have a BA degree in English lit, and can speak the language fluently. What are my chances of getting a position as an ESL teacher? I don't have an ESL certificate yet, but I do have some teaching experience.
Thanks for any help! |

| I seem to recall that there was this Polish girl who spoke with a slight English accent who taught with me. Give it a shot! Good luck. |

Gene Dobry:
Well, it might depend on the passport that you hold. If it is America, you are in...if it is still Polish, then you might need either a CELTA or the Cambridge First/Advanced Certificate that a lot of Polish students get...yours is somewhat of a unique situation as far as I know so you might have to ask some schools and make certain you state on your CV/Resume that you speak English fluently as you have lived in the States for most of your life...
I spent 2 years there and it is such a great place but like someone else said, "If only the money were better!" |

| Thanks for the advice! I have looked at job postings and I noticed not all specify native speakers so I think I'll have a good chance of getting something. As for the money, it'd be nice if they paid more, but money's not the most important thing to me. |

| If you have an undetectable accent then you'll have an easy time. i was born in poland but lived in canada all my life (i left when i was one). when i came back the employers were falling over me because the didn't have to pay for my visa, i just had to claim residency here. which just takes time, not money. |

| Thanks Zezeltin! I don't have an accent although I left Poland when I was ten. What did you have to do to claim residency? And how long did it take? |
