Hello,

I came to America as a child and I want to return to Poland and teach English. I have a BA degree in English lit, and can speak the language fluently. What are my chances of getting a position as an ESL teacher? I don't have an ESL certificate yet, but I do have some teaching experience.
Thanks for any help!

I seem to recall that there was this Polish girl who spoke with a slight English accent who taught with me. Give it a shot! Good luck.

Gene Dobry:

Well, it might depend on the passport that you hold. If it is America, you are in...if it is still Polish, then you might need either a CELTA or the Cambridge First/Advanced Certificate that a lot of Polish students get...yours is somewhat of a unique situation as far as I know so you might have to ask some schools and make certain you state on your CV/Resume that you speak English fluently as you have lived in the States for most of your life...

I spent 2 years there and it is such a great place but like someone else said, "If only the money were better!" Crying or Very sad

Thanks for the advice! I have looked at job postings and I noticed not all specify native speakers so I think I'll have a good chance of getting something. As for the money, it'd be nice if they paid more, but money's not the most important thing to me.

If you have an undetectable accent then you'll have an easy time. i was born in poland but lived in canada all my life (i left when i was one). when i came back the employers were falling over me because the didn't have to pay for my visa, i just had to claim residency here. which just takes time, not money.

Thanks Zezeltin! I don't have an accent although I left Poland when I was ten. What did you have to do to claim residency? And how long did it take?
