What about Yakiniku?

I've eaten Yakiniku at a few restuarants but the best restaurant for yakiniku is at Maruki in either Kichijoji or Shimokitazawa.

Have you ever been to Iseiya Yakitori in Kichijoji right next to Inokashira Park?

Great place in the Fall to go and have a tall bottle of Sapporo, gyoza, shumai and some yakitori.

Tacowasa and Asahi Super Dry. Chou oishii. However, I do think Japan has the worst food in Asia, maybe the whole world.

Kindyuu ramen in Osaka is to die for. Hot and spicey with some chilli and Kimchee added.

Can't go past fresh salmon or maguro (tuna) or toro (tuna belly) sashimi.

Also agree with Romulus that a lot of the food you eat in Japan; ramem, yakiniku etc is not really Japanese. Mind you tempura originated in introduced Portugess cooking styles so I once read.

Does anyone else sometimes think that Japanese food comes in only 2 forms, raw and deep fried? Sometimes seems that way to me.

sashimi in summer, nabe in winter. yakitori with beer (anyday/night). udon, freshly made. simple...with just a dipping sauce. tempura (yes, of portuguese origin). yaki niku during the mad-cow scare (cheap).

i never really liked ramen (except in Sapporo).

there were times when i hated J food and craved almost any other cuisine except it. so i understand the critics. but the things they do good they do very good (and vice versa).
