Does anyone have any success stories of teachers in Turkey who have got out of TEFL and are making a living doing something else in Turkey. By getting out I mean right out of TEFL. |

A friend is in Testing, one works as an editor and an old friend now works selling text books to schools.
The coolest of them all is chap from the U.K who never worked as a teacher, but as a carpert saleman to rich westerners
I worked for about 4 years as a research assistant for an international bank. It paied well, yet I had to travle all over the country.
You can get work in other areas, but you need to know Turkish and how the country works. |

My distant goal, like in 8 or 10 years, is to get into translation, or even editing translations (Turkish Daily News, for example, desperately needs someone to edit the English), especially something I could do via computer from home, but now I'm waiting for my Turkish to be good enough...
I've heard Testing pays well, but it sounds incredibly boring. I wouldn't mind writing test items, but I think you end up doing a lot of statistical analysis. Oof...
And my secret dream is goat and herb (as in spices) farming, but the older I get, the less likely that becomes... |
