Yes, I just heard the news that the current DoS is leaving, she is going to Spain. After a few years in Istanbul she has decided it was time for a change. Well we cant keep all the great teachers here forever I guess.

And do you have this worthless piece of paper 31? I don't think it is worthless, and I don't believe you can say that it is worthless. I thought the course was worth the energy, helping me to learn the roots of our language, like a map of sorts. There are many times I have used the material as references, I think it is a good buy, besides it is more difficult to find a job without it. Sure it is not a major course, but it helps to learn. I would be lead to believe that a majority of us who have a TEFL think it has been of great use, unlike your useless ranting.

The Dude has got to throw in some applause as well.

Sometimes, I do get tired of the mindless dribble. But I thought the Dude was singular in this opinion... Crying or Very sad

Regards,
Dude

And do you have this worthless piece of paper 31?

No. When I started my tefl career (career-ha ha) Kent English was a crappy little place off Bahariye and was equally badly run by a dodgy Turk. They did have 1 contract with a high school to supply 1 teacher but their few ''teachers'' would do runners coz of unpaid wages. The only place in Ist that offered ''a tefl'' was the British Council and it was the RSA CTEFLA, now the CELTA. If course tefl has nosedived since then and any number of dodgy places offer any number of ''tefls.'' Course I paid roughly the same amount as Via Lingua charge for the CTEFLA but at least it is/was internationally recognised.

I don't think it is worthless, and I don't believe you can say that it is worthless.

Of course you don`t you paid 1100 Euros for it.

I thought the course was worth the energy, helping me to learn the roots of our language, like a map of sorts.

Library. Still free.

There are many times I have used the material as references, I think it is a good buy, besides it is more difficult to find a job without it.

Wrong. You get the job because you are a native speaker, nothing more nothing less. Of course a few impressive looking certificates or photocopies of same are something to show at the interview. Of course it is really you who is doing the interviewing and they never check so you could have made your own certificate or photocopied a mate`s. But one of the strengths of places like Via Lingua is they con the newbies who are naiive and don`t realise until they are a few years into their careers and have parted with the cash. As a test would your employer employ a Turk with just the Via Lingua tefl or would he insist on a 4 year ELT degree from a university?

Sure it is not a major course,

Now we are talking.

I would be lead to believe that a majority of us who have a TEFL

Is tefl countable?

Perhaps in the past Kent English was dodgy place run by a questionable businessman, but today it is nowhere near a shadow of how you described it. From the building, to the teachers and administrators it is a very nice place offering small class sizes to help facilitate learning for the students and a small library to assist the teachers.

A school with a small library? Let me guess I bet they also offer FREE airport pick ups for new teachers. I mean you wouldn`t expect a small library in a school would you? And it is taking the mick to expect to be picked up at the airport.

Is a library necessary? I think not. There is enough material on the net.

I was picked up from the airport, and so were all my co-workers. I didn't expect to be, though!

And I prefer reading books in paper form, and I'm 24. Razz
