I see a big fight approaching about a certain thread which seems to be upsetting some people. So for the sake of harmony and to promote a wider dialogue on current issues this thread hopefully will fit the bill. To start the ball rolling can I ask a general question about car insurance, in fact insurance as a whole concept .Where can you get decent cover for those important things in your life ,you know the car,the house ,furniture and protection for loved ones in the event of your early demise it seems that its hard to find or maybe I'm looking in the wrong place .Any ideas ?

Doesn't the cost of healthcare depend on age, sex, previous etc? So if you do sport(like FOOTBALL) it would be cheaper, degil mi?

Thanks DMB quick as ever ,I bow to your vast experience and your even vaster number of posts ,why do you get the time and energy to post so many ?
Before I click on the link you provided,one question,is it in English ? You also mentioned heathcare ,I didn't,don't need it my employer provides for a nominol sum as well as the state social . I will skip over the sport reference ,there is another thread for that .I was rather hoping you of all people could direct me to an English company based in Turkey ,just a thought ,I'll even consider an American company .There must be someone .

It's in Turkish. I've been told to check with your bank. Garanti has a site in English. I don't know about US companies but I looked into UK based companies ages ago andthey were way more expensive than Turkish companies

Great idea Billy , these are the kind of questions that need to be asked but are rarely answered due to the fact people live here in a bubble of xpatsville and know very little about living in the country proper . To illustrate this point the following questions popped into my mind . How do you go about buying a car in your own name ? Not a blue plate . Most people say they are a waste of time ,why ?
ıf a car is registered in your name and not a Turkish partner can you resell it back to someone other than a foreign national ?
If you apply for citizenship (some do ) at what age are you exempt from military service ?
Is it possible to own a business without having a Turkish partner and are we able to get mortage facilities from any of the banks in this country ?
Thank you for any non sporting or sarcastic replies hopefully I may start to get some real information from this forum at last .

Some people work at our place with dual nationality but their salary has not been effected ,depends who you are or you know I think .

I think thats a polite way of asking if you think the average Turk is a good shag ,personally I have been disappointed ,perhaps my expectations were too high , now where have I heard that before ?

Re getting bank credit, I asked at Koc Bank, where I go, and I was told that with a work visa, some kind of paper showing my salary, and a Turkish co-signer who can show his/her salary, you can get a loan.

I have always heard you can buy a Turkish plate car, but I would guess you would have to have at least a residence permit. I had a yabanci plaka car for a few years and I am glad I don't have a car anymore. It was a major pain in the butt to sell it, as I did not use an agent, and I ran from pillar to post for four days to get it done. If you buy a car, it is worth it to have an agent, believe me.
