Hey! I was looking for some advice! I feel like I am being messed about by my potential employer (well it's a big chain so not surprised!) and I'm thinking if they're being like this now! What the foook are they gonna be like later on! So I have 700000Yen in savings, which I've saved for moving and setting up in Japan etc and I am wondering, would it be wise to just move on my own and look for a job once in Tokyo?(I have friends there!) Will it be easy finding work 'on the spot' even if it was for a NOVA school, just as long as I am in Tokyo I dnt care who I work for! Also, what would happen about my visa? Is it possible to get one from inside the country!? Or am I better off going with the agency and being placed in Gunma or Saitama?
Cheers guys! |

val,
I think you are in Shikoku now, right?
If you are already employed, you have a work visa, which is good until it expires no matter who is your employer. At that point, you need another employer to help you renew the visa. Pretty simple procedure. |

Hi Vallillo,
What exactly is the problem? In what way do you feel you are being messed around? What time of year are you thinking of coming? |

Getting work on arrival is dependent upon your credentials and desire. If you have the credentials (University Degree) and will put in the leg work to find a position.
As for the Visa if you found someone to sponsor it you would have to fly out of the country (Korea is the popular choice)...
How has the company you were picked up by jerked you around? Are they going to sponsor your Visa and get you set up? |

are there many employers in Tokyo that will sponser me for a visa and offer me a job on the spot? what would the visa process be like if I applied for it after finding an empolyer in Japan?

I thought of applying to NOVA as they have many branches in Tokyo, but they said they could not gaurentee I would be placed there and of I was they could not say in would be in central Tokyo, so surely if I just walked into a local branch near where i will be living they will more likely offer me work!!
what do you think? |

| NOVA don't hire in their branches. They don't always hire domestically either so you cannot be sure of getting employment with them if you come to Japan. If you turn up at the branch it is unlikely anyone there will be able to help you and you'll probably just be given a business card or contact details for some big cheese. |

Hi Vallillo,
A couple of weeks ago, you couldn't decide between Taiwan, Hong Kong or Japan but now suddenly you have a boyfriend in Shinjuku and you want to live together!!!!!!!!!! How funny!!!!!
As to the job situation...
Now, how does that saying go... Something about a bird in Chiba being worth two in Tochigi.... or something like that.
Summer isn't a great time to look for a job especially if you're concentrating your search on one small area. And remember, you don't have a visa yet or any Japan experience (or any experience at all for that matter). 700 000 yen is a lot of money to blow looking for a job when you already have one lined up. I'd say your chances of finding an employer that will sponsor you in central Tokyo in summer are slim. Not impossible of course.... but think of all the other things you could do with 700 000 yen! It's a gamble... Are you prepared to spend all your money and still not find anything?
Your best bet is to contact NOVA/AEON etc and ask what the deal with getting hired domestically is. You never know. |

| if you want to be closer to your boyfriend, being placed in Saitama or Kanagawa would not be so bad, because getting to Shinjuku from there is not too complicated. |

If you walk into a branch they will simply tell you to contact the head office (which is located in Osaka) or tell you to apply through the company website.
They can not guarantee placement at any particular branch and they hire based on need. Branches don't have the power to hire individual teachers off the street but defer to H.O for hiring decisions.
Best idea is to contact NOVA H.O. tell them you will be Tokyo. Don't be specific about what branch or area you want to work at as they will just say no. They will not commit themselves unless there is a particular vacancy at a branch.
Your boyfriends situation is of no particular concern to them. |
