I've known a few senior teachers, ones that have been at the game for 10+ years and are darn good at it, to be up in that bracket. Informatics is one place that pays for experience as well as quality...or so I've been told. A master's degree helps as does certitication. Teaching load at that level is about 15 hours a week.

But as far as your run-of-the-mill places are concerned, 10-12K is the most I've seen with 5K being about average, maybe even a tad on the high side depending on where you are.

Also, if you move away from pure ESL you can command higher pay. Even a course in Business Communications, which most ESL teachers could handle, usually comes with a better rate.

I think the most of the posts saying people were making 20,000 a month were referring to people who work more than one job.

Hi everyone, I believe Malsol's post is in response to a comment in a thread about getting a job with only a high school diploma. Another poster said he knows some people who only have high school diplomas and pull in more than 20,000 per month. Of course there are jobs that require highly qualified individuals that will pay 20,000 or more.

there was a poster here (up until early last year anyway) known as great wall of whiner. he claimed to have knowledge of well-paying jobs, upwards of RMB10-12,000 per month. but he would never, as far as i know, reveal their whereabouts. he no longer appears to be posting. maybe his posts were just another part of the sham that can be esl in china.....
