There are 20,000 rmb per month EFL teaching jobs in China.
If you say there are, prove it. Post the school name, the email address and the hours required. |
Not all "EFL teaching" takes places in schools. |

I've known a few senior teachers, ones that have been at the game for 10+ years and are darn good at it, to be up in that bracket. Informatics is one place that pays for experience as well as quality...or so I've been told. A master's degree helps as does certitication. Teaching load at that level is about 15 hours a week.
But as far as your run-of-the-mill places are concerned, 10-12K is the most I've seen with 5K being about average, maybe even a tad on the high side depending on where you are.
Also, if you move away from pure ESL you can command higher pay. Even a course in Business Communications, which most ESL teachers could handle, usually comes with a better rate. |

I think the most of the posts saying people were making 20,000 a month were referring to people who work more than one job.

Hi everyone, I believe Malsol's post is in response to a comment in a thread about getting a job with only a high school diploma. Another poster said he knows some people who only have high school diplomas and pull in more than 20,000 per month. Of course there are jobs that require highly qualified individuals that will pay 20,000 or more. |

there was a poster here (up until early last year anyway) known as great wall of whiner. he claimed to have knowledge of well-paying jobs, upwards of RMB10-12,000 per month. but he would never, as far as i know, reveal their whereabouts. he no longer appears to be posting. maybe his posts were just another part of the sham that can be esl in china..... |

Business trainers can make that as can core business teachers. But that is NOT EFL. |
EFL = English as a foreign language
Anyone teaching English to non-native speakers in a non-English-speaking country is teaching EFL. There are definitely people who can make more than RMB 20,000 per month teaching English in China. I have been one of them, teaching English to speakers of Chinese. It was not in a school. It was at an American corporation's main offices in Shanghai and at several branch offices. |

No- no problem at all.
This year I have run into people who:
A) Have no university degrees and making over 20,000 RMB per month. |
Henry, I believe you have earned over 20,000. If you get a job at an international school you can probably earn more. However, the 20,000 and over jobs are for qualified individuals. I've heard a lot of BS about salaries when I was in Korea and China and I think it's a negative thing. |

Exactly.
Qualifications = experience + training + professionalism
We shouldn't think of "qualifications" simply in terms of certificates and specific degrees, or in terms of the number of years one has done something. |

In another thread I agreed with your definition of professionalism. However, "we" aren't the ones who determine qualifications. Like it or not all the experience, training, and workshops in the world won't get you a job paying 20,000 + at an international school if they require you to have a B.Ed or an MA and you don't have one. William Wallace, your recent posts have been interesting to read. Your writing is a refreshing change from all the, "How much money can I save?" posts. |

You're still stuck on degrees. But as I pointed out, "qualifications" are not simply degrees. The job I mentioned didn't require a B.Ed., an M.A., or any other specific degree. I don't think anyone at my employer really knows (or cares) what degrees I have. |

Show me the person with a high school diploma pulling down 20,000 plus a month in China. The OP's intent is to call out lies people tell about salaries. I support him. |
