Actually my school upped their salaries this year which puts them above what most of the other American schools are paying. Is it better than the British Schools? No, but as an relatively inexperienced American teacher looking for his first post overseas those weren't an option. Is better than some of the gov't or corporate ESL positions? Nope, but again I'm a math teacher so I wouldn't qualify for those either. Really this was really the best I could do in Kuwait with my background and qualifications. So, calling my salary crap isn't very fair. I'm sure an oil geologist or engineer there would probably call any teacher's salary crap so it's all relative isn't it?

A single person on 750KD per month or ($30,800 per annum) could save as much as 500KD per month, depending on life-style.

A car will cost between 100KD to 120KD rental per month ( teachers special) If you plan to be here 3 or 4 years lease to buy is a better option.

Despite VS believing she is pretty much right that "it is rare for K-12 to paid more than $25,000" In Kuwait there are many schools that do pay more. Generally EFL teachers are the lowest paid teachers and the average salary was 700KD, that is until Qualitas stepped into the ring.

Anyway I don't want to get into a 'tennis match' over salaries, suffice it to say, until teachers say NO to LOW salaries the situation won't change, you can make a difference. Just Say "NO TOO LOW"

Hanged man

You are correct that this is about the best you could do with your qualifications in not only Kuwait (which has never been one of the better pay locations of the Gulf), but in the Gulf in general.

It is nice to see a poster who is realistic about the pay scale for the beginner. Usually we get people with a BA in Liberal Arts who taught swimming once who thinks that they can show up and pull the big bucks. Laughing

Unfortunately wages and benefits are dropping in most of the Gulf including the Emirates. Employers will do what they can get away with... and if they can't, they will probably just give our jobs to other nationalities.

Good Luck, Hanged Man. I hope it all works out for you.

What a funny guy you are!!

I managed to delete the duplication. Funny how sometimes you get the little X for delete and sometimes you don't.

I have been driven crazy with "ppBBB can't connect" screen this morning. I give up!! Must be too many people on the board. Shocked

What is with all the favoritism towards Fred?? Of course, he is one of our always helpful posters... but... is this a 'guys sticking together' thing?? 30 to 0? When do we get to 'luv'?

Your avatar doesn't look like you? Oh darn, I've always had a weakness for buckteeth... Sad I'm so disappointed...

I have always assumed that it is the large amount of traffic on this board, but what do I know. I have had problems on a couple of my other boards, but not as often... but they have significantly smaller membership and are not phpBB.

What a find!!! I have been looking, asking, and banging my head trying to learn as much as possible about life in Kuwait for families and teachers!!! You all are my silver lining...I hope. I have been offered a teaching position at ASK - I hold the employment contract in my hand. I have not signed it yet, because I have questions about moving my family to the Middle East. Is anyone willing to accept this task? (Helping me make an informed decision.) Thanks in advance.
