A simple google search will tell you a lot more than I can about the subject.
In brief, 1/3 of the Armenian population were wiped out by the Ottoman Turks in 1915. That's approximately 1.5 million dead men, women and children in what constituted as the first genocide of the 20th century.
A genocide that was so well covered up it was used as a model by Hitler when he was justifying the fate of the 6 million jews who eventually perish at his hands. He's remembered for famously said 'who remembers the Armenians?'
Although this atrocity was carried out by rulers of the past, pre Ataturk, the present day government refuses to acknowledge what happened.
This has caused a lot of tension and bitterness for both the remaining genocide survivors and the new generation of Armenians like myself. |

You commented on Iran as well as Turkey, so I though maybe you had some personal opinions as an Armenian on the topic. Yet perhaps you are too removed ancestally from the diaspora and the history to have an opinion. If I wanted a blanket google resonse, I know how to use google and wikipedia, and would not have asked you about it.

Ok My personal opinion.
I hold the Turkish government in very low esteem. I am several generations removed from the victims of the genocide but won't allow myself to to forget what happened to them. Should I ever have children, I'll teach them about it as well.
I feel Turkey Should take responsibility for its actions and it should educate i's people about its History so they can make sure that something like this never happens again.
Do I hate the present day Turks... That's a tough one. In my heart I know I shouldn't as it was not their hands which murdered so many people. But there ignorance to the truth does bother me.
I try to seperate the people from the government but also find myself feeling somewhat cold towards someone who tells me they are Turkish. I refuse to go to Turkish owned shops and boycott as many any Turkish products as I can. This in turn only make the gulf between us larger.
This isn't right but it's an uncontrolable emotion.
Anyway, I hope this answers your question more fully. |

Use your brain not your emotion! You cannot hate a person because his grand-father killed your grand-father!
Forget the past, live in the present, and look forward to the future:
I Quote from the Bible: St. Mathew
"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. |

Not to quibble (who me?) but I believe that particular quote from Hitler was actually used with reference to the Nazis' attempt to destroy the Polish nation, not to the Jewish holocaust.

That must be a major sacrifice for you, living in that well-known Turkish trading hub, Jubail. |

Hmm
I've only been in Jubail for a week and a bit. But I was living in Green Lanes for around four years. Actually Britain does boast a fair amount of products that are exported from Turkey.
To be fair I do the same with Isreali products. Nothing wrong with peaceful protest. |

Looking, Listening and Decoding
Bush: Al Hakim, you're as clever as Khomeini and as smart as Nour Al maliki.
Al hakim: Bush, you are as stupid as Blair and as smart as Rice. |

Ahmedinejad: Bush you would taste good cubed, mixed with saffron and marinated in yogurt with some rice on the side.
Bush: Why you're a west Tehran boy, just like me! |

Ahmedinejad: Bush, why did you describe Iran as axis of evil, and you know very well that the great threat to world peace, according to the Guardian poll, is you Mr President?
Bush: Hey, Ahmedinejad, Gratifications to you from the White House. At last, a poll we are top of, justifying all our hard work and endeavourations to bring about world peace and prosperity by kicking out 'terrorists' wherever totalitarian and dictatroship exist . Pop will be mightly pleased. God bless you all. Pass the pretzels honey. |

If you boycott Turks in Jubail you'll have a problem getting a good haircut.
On the subject of the Armenian Genocide it will be fun when Turkey joins the EU. France already has a law making it a criminal offence to deny the genocide, and Turkey has one making it a criminal offence to claim it happened, and both will want the law to apply throughout the EU. |

I think this law has been introduced more as a way of ensuring that Turkey never joins the EU, rather than as a provision for when Turkey does join the EU - which it may well never do. |

The best barbers in SA are the Tunisians, Moroccans, and Lebanese.

France should first make a law for her Genocide in Algeria, where they killed more than 1.5 millions. ..and not interfere in the business of others.
Turkey is not in a hurry to join EU! |

Yes it is.
I hope the English don't introduce new laws because of Bannockburn. Or why don't Americans introduce new laws because of the original settlers from Britain and the attrocities they committed? Or every African country and the old colonial powers.
all these events are history and we should learn from history not use them as excuse for hatred.
I live and work with Turks 24/7. Do they care about the armenian massacre and hate Armenians? NO. who does ?politicians, the media and a few tw@ts like the one who recently murdered Hrat Dink. |

Also the English, should apologize for showing Robert Bruce as a traitor in the film Braveheartg. The Scotts say that never did Bruce betray Wallace.
Dmb, like Bruce, is a man of outstanding bravery and courage, who with the aid of tactics (from 007), led the Scots through 30 years of virtual war to win their respect and freedom from the English and the French.
Also, the English should apologise for their dark role in the slave trade two centuries ago. Tony Blair expressed "deep sorrow and regret" for Britain's role in the slave trade. However, he did not offer a formal apology!!!
Dmb, Tony said Britain Role, which means he involved the Scotts in this dark role. What do you say about this? Is it true? |
