Let's be honest about it Muji... the main reason you're coming here is for the women.

I can't really blame him for being hesitant to admit it though... anyone that comes on these boards and says that women are one of the main benefits of living here is labelled a pervert. It's just as good as any other reason to come... Japanese women are great - it's one of the reasons that I'm here. There, I said it.

And the truth will set you free!

It's not perverted for a young man to be interested in young women. That's a distortion we hear bandied around all too often. It's the most natural thing in the world.

All I'm suggesting is that you slow down a little bit. It's clear that you are excited about coming to Japan and that's great. I hope you have a wonderful time. However, I suggest that if you arrive in Kyoto with your suitcase in one hand and your nudger in the other then things might not go so well for you. You don't want to get a reputation for being a sexual predator, do you? Well then, be cool Muji.

You're going to have a whole heap of other issues to deal with when you first get here anyway. Things like learning the language and learning to be an effective teacher which is going to come as a slap in the face to you.
You most probably will find a girlfriend here but as another poster has said: wait and see what happens.

I drink very lightly and have ruffled a few feathers. Address it politely and resolutely. People who can't handle it are free to let it ruin their evening.

I suggest not making a Japanese girlfriend a priority. Although a local girl can accelerate your learning, you've seen in your other other relationships that there's more to be considered.

I don't understand why anyone should be given a hard time for being interested in alcohol and women. If they are of no interest to you then perhaps Saudi Arabia would be a better place to seek employment. The salaries tend to be higher there.

Just weighing in with my 2 cents. The girls here are fantastic, but it takes a while to find one (at least a decent one). I have some friends here who do quite well in their home countries who have been here for months before landing a good girlfriend. So don't expect girls to flock to you. There are many foreigners here in Japan, though it doesn't often feel like it. Don't forget about the language barrier either. Knowing or not knowing Japanese will really effect who/how many people you will be able to date.
I wish you luck here in Japan, but chances are you will be working a lot and the girls do too, so if that is your main focus you may end up being unhappy here.

Thankyou Chris, that's very helpful. Being happy, learning the language and integrating with the culture are all my true aspirations - having a local girlfriend just tend to help all these things in my experience.
