"It's amazing, isn't it, how easily people hand over the reins to those who presume power. Against their own intuition, they allow themselves to trust those who they feel should not be trusted. I include myself as one who once did this. But then again, I was only a child, . . ."
"The only thing certain in times of great uncertainty is that people will behave with great strength or weakness, and with very little else in between. I know from experience."

Is your new "dream job" going poorly or are you still flogging a dead horse over your experience with Hess? |

Another psychological diversion/smokescreen, CW, to avoid perhaps the content herein? And who'd said "dream job!" You one of those slaves, those duped, the weak? Unable to stand up for anything, other than the fact you must stand up all day in a classroom with a CT for a whip?
Can't get it? Am I "flogging a dead horse?" Who's brought HESS to our attention, but another 'victim?'
Is this, then, "a dead horse?"
Or is this just another 'psychological diversion' tactic of yours?
As for 'the new dream job'., Hess is the 'dream', ie. 'Daring to Dream' remember? My new job is 'the reality.' |

The irony is you talk about content being ignored. I see no content in the original post, just a pair of quotes with no explanation or commentary to contextualize them. Maybe you're trying to impress with your wit or intelligence, but your thread is pointless dribble. |

Or, again, maybe it was just you who had issues. All of the CTs I work with are sweathearts who are willing to bend over backwards to help you as long as you treat them with respect. Besides, most of them just sit in the back and mark, leaving you to teach unless you specifically ask for assistance. |

On the one hand, I also couldn't understand if your quotes were applying to your newer job you mentioned, or the former one. But I will agree with the quotes in general, and yes those quotes do apply well to your former job (a company I also was in). |

"The content," Steve, is exactly what the writer meant it to mean in this novel and which could apply to the topic sentence therein, which has to do with "abuse of power" don't you think? And as it applies. . .well. . .there is no "explanation" nor "commentary" but what a person wishes to make it in light of their present circumstances teaching here, which is why I wrote the title "Dealing with a School's 'Power Trip Mentality'."
Then CW comes along, throws in the correlation, so I thought, Yeah, it certainly applies here. Doesn't it now?
As for wit and intelligence, to remark that a mere quote is trying to impress people but the thread "pointless dribble" makes me wonder at the contradiction, such as, "Arrogance and self-awareness are seldom companions." |

Another smokescreen, a retort, or a regression of reasoning, CW, since we're talking about HESS, abuse of power, aren't we?
Now you want to drag the CT's into it, which I used as an example of this abuse. And no, most aren't "sweathearts", but terrible assistants. And your spelling reflects a good analogy. |

What was the name of that bloke a couple of years ago who wanted to sell 'big cheeses'?
Does anybody smell gorgonzola? |

please, try not to to stay here too much longer. you sound like an angst-ridden 14-year-old, determined to share her supposedly profound insights with an audience that couldn't care less. how difficult life must be, for the scorned teacher... really, isn't there a suicide cult to join, or something slightly more productive than ranting on about the woes of your life? |

okay. i've come up with a more apporpriate name for you. "staying power" is almost insultingly banal for a mind like yours. how about viagra? it's pedestrian, used by men of lower intelligence and seems to fit your personality perfectly. (i can picture you growing as you type...) by the way, i really enjoy how you end your posts with a faux-witty quotation from somebody much more intelligent than you - it serves to highlight your shortcomings in your would-be repartee. if you're going to hide behind someone else's words, at least attempt to use a quotation that is relevant. take the following quote, excerpted from classic american cinema.
"you can trouble me for a warm glass of shut the hell up. now you will go to sleep, or i will put you to sleep."
-ben stiller
take the advice. a warm glass of shut the hell up. chase it with a freshly baked bar of please don't bother us anymore. a well-rounded meal always helps chase the blues away, even in your case. |

I am quite sure it was Oscar Wilde who quoted that, "Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative."
Ok, so I admit, I looked that one up for use in this thread. Wow, I feel smarter already.
I am often dismayed at those who come to Taiwan and criticise the way of life here and manage to pick fault with everything. I have one simple piece of advice for these people and it is this:
Leave and find somewhere that suits your personality and outlook. Taiwan isn't for everyone.
As the saying goes, "Change will never be brought about through the actions of reasonable men." but I feel I can accept many things within my work environment and at the end of the day, how you respond to these problems/situations is totally up to you and nobody is responsible for your reactions to any given situation. A friendly approach works best and in that I welcome all to the culture of collectivism. Individualist westerners often find a lot of clashes here. Don't criticise it, because there is plenty to pick fault with our culture as well.
In my experience, I have been well treated and if you are willing to put in the work, you can reap the benefits later. Ever heard of guanxi? No. Then start learning. Have a seat and watch because there is no textbook for this class.
I can see that Hess hasn't worked out for the OP and that is fine. If you get into a relationship with a girl and you find it doesn't work, you break up, complain to your friends about your hard done situation and move on promptly.
It would appear we have another Aristotle situation whereby this board is going to deteriorate into rants followed closely by personal attacks on each other when 99% of people on this board have never met and feel comfortable to fling abuse around left right and centre. It's just not cool people.
Going back to my statement above of the choice to react to any given situation. Take heed and like with TV. If you don't like what is on the screen, change channel.
謝謝你們聽我說!
Oh yeah, and if you are gonna stay in this country for a decent length of time, do yourself a favour and learn the God damn language!
Peace. |

I'm not sure I've ever read a post I agree with more strongly. Very well said! |
