Need to finish the degree really.

Shame, as with the TESOL and year in China you're more experienced and qualified than 99% of degree graduates that turn up at eikaiwas.

The degree's usually a requirement for the visa though.

Finish the degree! This country is already waaaay too full of drop-outs.

The Japanese have their own unqualified wasters to worry about called 'NEET' (Not in Education, Employment or Training). Take inspiration from this and get YOURSELF into Education or Training.

I agree. You will have so many more options (including the option to stay basically as long as you want) if you finish your degree first.

With that said, with a working holiday visa you could get a couple of part time gigs and support yourself. I don't think it would be too hard. But if you have the expert in humanities visa that degree holders get, you can get a full time job with paid vacations etc.
