Go (back) to where the chicks are as cheap as the beer - and the employers.

If you think it's ''pants'' now, then God knows how you'll feel 12 months into the future. Get out now!

Do you mean Bahrain?
Actually I've done a lot of 'time' in the Gulf and there's much to be said for cheap beer.
As for cheap chicks? Most I've met were generally English or American and hung around on Ladies' nights in 5 star hotel bars in the M.E.As the man asked an expat woman returning to the U.K.;'how does it feel to be ugly again?'
Cheap employers....c'mon love this is E.F.L.I always enjoy passing all my students and being relegated to the role of babysitter as is the case in virtually every job I've done out here.
We're here for the money....and yes I will go back, but only when I've got enough to really enjoy the delights that the progressive world offers for as long as I want to.
No beer ,cheap chicks, get out....methinks you've gone native.

You're right. Problem is that most single guys here end up living like hermits. Let's face it, we're here for the money. I chose to come because I got sick of living on the breadline in Europe. I don't care what other teachers say, you don't come to KSA to "further your career".

As for "recreation". There's plenty of it around without having to go to Bahrain every weekend.

You must have been absent the day in primary school when they taught you to put a space after a comma or the end of a sentence, and a line break after a paragraph.

Then again, all you have to know that is to pick up any written material, even if a newspaper or a magazine. So, have you have been absent from life as well?

Lord have mercy on your past, present, and future students.

P.S. Why bother putting a space after each word even? Imean, isn'titmucheasiertotypelikethis?ImagineNEVERhavingtohitthatpeskyspacebaragain!!!HavefuninSaudi, andhopeyoucanpickupafew"spaces"aswellasbeersandchicks!!!

Well, from what I gathered from your scribings on various boards, the non-discriminating and readily available chicks you speak of are generally nowhere near the Middle East. "Ladies' nights" in hotel bars? Guess it must be a Jumeirah Jane thing, I wouldn't understand.

Yawn. If I had a halala for every time I've seen this on internet chat boards....

It's a shame that those who have recently discovered (on departing Bangkok/Warsaw/Taipei/Sofia) that they're not in fact George Clooney's long-lost twin can't come up with another 'joke'. Just for the sake of variety, you know.

The only place I've ever 'heard' that phrase is here on this board. But it is easy to picture the 'man' who would say it... big beer belly hanging over ill-fitting khakis... bald pate and red cheeks glowing... a local hooker on his arm if he had enough cash.

Welcome back Biff Laughing

A bulging wallet does seem to be these chaps' most attractive feature.
If only the airlines would introduce a separate section for fat, beery, male expats.

Great description, VS.

Only thing is, as you know in this part of the world the hookers are highly unlikely to be local. Actually, it's far more probable that they hail from those regions where 'men' like the ones you describe acquire their cut-price 'wives'.

Ladies (if that's what you are), a little more decorum please. Some of us are still slim and svelte enough to fit into a tailored tuxedo and come over as the dark celtic-type (think Pierce Brosnan meets George Clooney). It's just that we get so little opportunity to turn on the charm. Put any male long enough in the desert without access to female company and we're all liable to turn into the worst kind of Aussie bar-fly.
