| I've heard that those sentenced to a lashing in KSA may wear clothing that affords some protection from the whip. I'm unlikely to find myself in this situation (Scotty would love to have the whip in his hand) but wonder what you recommend. |

Yes. Some years ago, I have attended a lashing of two Pakistanis in a public area, one of them was wearing a thick leather jacket on top of his traditional Pakistani clothes.
In addition, the policeman who was lashing the Ppakistani was following the rules of lashing. One of the rules is that he has to use the whip without lifting his arm more than 90 degrees !

Of course he would.
I imagine Uncle Scotty lashing you using a white Golf whip and wearing his purple kilt! |

| Indeed, hanged...which holds when referring to the execution or suicide but not, I think, in other contexts...somewhat anomalous to "proven" (at least in American English) traditionally considered correct only in the context of court adjudications. IE, His hypothesis was proved wrong. We are innocent until proven guilty. |

It is a mute point really as common usage has been for hung and hanged to be used interchangebly.
When i was at school only pictures were hung but prisoners were hanged.
I am not a grammar nazi so my post was really tongue in cheek. |
