If someone is wanting do this seriously, the first stop should be LANCELOT School as it has a certificate equivalent to the DELTA for the online world, which teaches three aspects which is crucial for live online teaching: (similar to the DELTA as opposed to CELTA as you must be TEFL/TESL certified and have experience) www.lancelot-course.com

1)methodology specifically targeted to live online teaching
2)intercultural communicative competence
3)technology (and how to help your students with the technology)

In adddition, the LANCELOT certificate is ICC certified and if you want, you can get nine credit hours. LANCELOT School also has a recruitment center where language schools and companies can request certified live online trainers.

About the course, usually employers ask for 120 hours with 6 teaching students. But 100 hour course might be ok too.

Your BA will help for visas, so you should be able to get your foot in the door. then once you start teaching, you can get more qualifications.

It's all happening at this school Having taught online for a year I was aware that my skills were lacking in not only the know how of available technology and other teaching aids, but in the best way to present and conduct online sessions.
As I was determined to make online my main line of work I decided to look for a suitable training course. After viewing some of those on offer I discovered Lancelot, a European Union, ICC approved course and, most importantly, monitored by them. So i was assured that my money would be well spent!
I have no regrets! The course was dynamic, covered the technical skills side in a systematic and thorough manner, and, most importantly, in a way that a techie nerd could understand and achieve success.
The lesson planning and other materials covered were entertaining and valuable. My only criticism is that some of the intercultural communication material was sometimes repetitive.
The backup as been second to none and graduates of the course are encouraged to share and help one another via a community site. And the DOS is always on hand as well
Anyone planning a career in online teaching would be well advised to check out this course. And best of all they are moving into Second Life! Watch this space. If you have any questions just contact me.[/size]
