Well, I am an American 41 year old male, 12 years teaching esl, B.S. degree, no esl certificate, MOD EDIT, not wanting to go back to the states, having a rough time in China, the pay is crap, and it goes on and on.. what you all think??

Based on all the posts you've submitted in the last several days, I'd say you're in the midst of some kind of mid-life, or mid-career, crisis. You're burnt out on China and you can't figure out where to go-- Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam or wherever... . You keep asking for advice, and I've given you some in previous postings but you haven't responded to mine or anyone else'.

You're 41 years old, a BA, been teaching ESL for 12 years with no certificate.

Do you like teaching ESL? If so, then get better qualifications, i.e. a Masters degree or proper state certification, which might mean going back to the States for a while.

Do you not like teaching ESL? If not, then please move on to something else, for the sake of your students, the profession and yourself.

Do you not like living in very different cultures, like China? If not, find somewhere that suits you; maybe you belong back in the States.

Good luck; sounds like you've got a few things to sort out. You're not that young so you should think about which direction you've been heading in.

We have never entertained discussions of fake certificates, degrees, diplomas, etc., on this site. Members who persist in promoting such discussions usually become ex-members very quickly.

With all of the experience you have, why would there not be tons of work available to you? Anywhere?

Honestly, have you considered another industry, perhaps in your home country?

It's easier getting employment in a person's home-country than it is in EFL overseas.

Just come on over K. Be interesting to see how long u can last in Vietnam.

China is a cushy compared to VN. There's a price to be paid for a better pay rate here.

If VN is such an agreeable place to be , with loads of money thrown into the mix, why isn't it overwhelmed with teachers?

Go to Korea, get a job in a smaller city where they appreciate foreigners more.

Or get a TEFL certification and get a job in one of the smaller cities in Vietnam.

they pay YOU 20 bucks an hour to "teach"?

probably the reason every expat u meet is a teacher is because you're working in a school, or you're a teacher.....Duh!

i suspect the reason why this board is so overwhelmingly negative because the majority of teachers in saigon don't have the time or the patience to deal with people like you (myself included). which is a shame, i think, because a lot of prospective teachers turn to websites like this for reliable information, and what they get is an outrageously skewed perspective. i was attempting to provide a counterbalance to the incessant griping on this board by sharing my experiences, but evidently displaying positivity and optimism appears to you to be "childish" and "simplistic."

anywhere a person goes, the experience is what one makes of it. most people who choose to come all the way to Vietnam to work actually embrace the experience, rather than dismissing everything so automatically. which means they don't end up as desperately miserable as you appear to be. you, too, would probably be a lot happier if you took that chip off your shoulder.

which begs the question... if you hate it so much, why are you still here?
