Dear word_to_the_wise,
"Some staff need to be controlled, otherwise they do as they please."
I agree completely - if, that is, by "staff" you are also including management.
Regards,
John
P.S. I was a manager for five years. |

Absolutely!!
Management are subject to controls and are accountable for their actions.
Why shouldn't they be? |

No reason whatsoever - I posted only because I mistakenly thought your comments were directed just at teachers.
One other thought - the word "manipulation" has mostly bad connotations, but let's face it: that's a big part of what managers have to do. I'd say that the key is not whether you "manipulate" staff (if you're a manager, you're going to, like it or not), but how you do it. If you try to be as open and fair as possible, if you invite staff participation and feedback, if you explain rather than dictate, then I believe you're much more likely to get more cooperation, more contentment and a lot better results.
Regards,
John |

Scot, my dear, are you referring to ME??? You couldn't be farther from the truth! When have I ever attacked you? I certainly didn't appreciate your accusation of my playing the "urban myth" of MY passport being a part of a group of them leveling out our goofy GR rep's desk. But, I'd love to see your comeback with quotes of me attacking you!
I disagree with your chosen country of employment, but, it ends there.
That other Scot...the fool...he has NO connection to you...why, pray tell, would I connect you with that idiot?
One of my greatest mates here is a Scot...I certainly don't have any ill feeling towards him or my great British boss. I'm not that petty...that is, of course, if yer refering to me...

I think it's the otherway around. I'd say some management need to be controled, otherwise they do as they please. In my time, I've seen far too many so called 'managers' misuse their position. They don't know how to manage, which is why they control. They are not the same thing at all. If you show some respect for your teachers, you get it back, if you think management is all about control, then they live up to your expectations. The teachers who need some 'control' actually need guidance and support. If the boss is a misery, he makes everyone else miserable. |

And, that would be my exact point, where have I been personal...I think that I have a right, on a public forum, to defend myself.

This country and its schools and universities (fully sanctioned by policies in the SEC, QF, QU, QP, etc.) brings out crudeness, ambition and viciousness in many of the ex-pats who work there. This is particularly true of directors both in the business sector and in schools and colleges. They are too busy gratifying their base instincts and desires to really care about the students or their staff and teachers. They should give psychological tests to people who run departments to determine if they are normal!
A Bullying manager/director/head/administrator is the lowest of the low. These people need to think they are important so they bully others in all sorts of nasty ways. They need their heads examined. They aren't worth my little finger! At least I have integrity and never ratted on or screwed a colleague.
The last boss revels in squashing people like cockroaches. One day he'll get splattered. |

Bullies are sick people who need to control in order to make themselves feel real. Bullying is really about weak, manipulative individuals who need to bully in order to feel powerful. They need help. Strange how so many bullies manage to bully their way to management positions. It just shows that so many places don't have standards. Bullies are often the wrong people in the right place at the right time. Circumstances. They should be made to take a personality evaluation before being appointed. |

Bullying is one of the worst traits a teacher can have. Teacher bullies were probably bullies at school or bullied themselves and need to prove something to someone (themselves) probably.

Bullies need to be horse whipped and given a dose of their own medicine.
I agree, all bullying heads need to take a personality test or some kind psychological test. If they are bullies, they shouldn't be in education. Teachers should also have the chance to report bullying managment types without fear of repercussion or punishment or being fired (which is what a lot of bullying managers do to get rid of the people who have sussed them out).
Educators need to weed out bullying; however it is very hard if they have to deal with bullies on top of them all the time. The worst teachers and/or teacher bullies often get into management positions because they know how to bully their way to the top. In my experience these bullies can't really teach which is why they try for management jobs. I heard the new Gulag director is a 'bully'. The Gulagers who are left can't stand him.
The Brits take bullying very seriously, especially bullying heads. Last week a board fired a principal for bullying her staff. My Brit girlfriend told me about this one. Can you believe it?

mmmmm........bullying is bad.......bullies should be bullied into not bullying......that way they will learn........?????how to be more effective bullies?
It is interesting that what we see as a punishable offence in others we see as justifiable in our selves. We tend to be so egocentric in our thinking and bebaviour that our perception becomes everyone else's reality.....in our minds. We truly do live in our own little worlds, perhaps explaining why so many of us can't live at home anymore? We are left to rant in some corner of the world or other about the injustice of it all, why the world can not hear and heed our ramblings and why we are so isolated from our happiness.
How about we try 'hug a bully'; afterall, tis love we all need. |

Hug a bully? He may stab you. Teachers who bully their students and/or staff/colleagues should not be in education. Point blank. A teacher who bullies his class or anyone else is not the right role model for students to see. My role model is Mr. Chips. Believe in your friends, your colleagues, your staff and students and they will work hard for you. Bully them and they end up hating your guts! |

Bullies make great dictators. Remember what Adolf used to say
"The world wants to be deceived, therefore let it be decieved." He got away with his bullying but eventually it caught up with him. Adolf was bullied at school. Look how he turned out!
Too many kids today are victims of bullying - in class, on the street, at home - these kids end up terrorizing others in order to make themselves feel big. In reality they are just dirty old cockroaches who live in scum and become scum themselves. To me bullies are just pokeweed.
I used to work for a pokeweed type. Have you ever smelled pokeweed? It stinks to high heaven. Real bad smell!!! Pokeweed is as common as much and grows in bogs; so do bullies, bogs are their natural environments. Pokeweed is toxic and so are bullies. Pokeweed can cause nausea and headaches. So can bullies. In short, all bullies are nothing but pokeweed. So bring on the weed killer and spray it in the bully's face. See how he likes a taste of his own poison.
There is no place in education for bullies and especially at the top and in the classroom. When they got rid of the pokeweed at my university, the staff cheered and had a good riddance bully toast. |
