Go to his posting history. He just did a TEFL cert of some kind in Thailand in the last year, so he has neither an MA or teacher certification... and was even posting on a previous thread in June about these same scams. He was told then to avoid recruiters!!

There is no legitimate employer paying US$4500 a month who makes a teacher pay for a visa. I have never paid for a visa...

This means that UAEU is not a legitimate employer. Staff there pay for visas, and associated costs (HIV test). This year had to pay for the Emirates ID Card to boot. |

| Most places are making employees pony up the dough for the civil IDs--but paying for a visa medical at a ministry clinic? That's odd. |

Odd but true. Paid for health check on arrival, paid for every visa from the first to the current one. Paid for HIV tests at the Preventive Medicine Department. This year got the HIV test done in a private clinic (before they changed the rules) as I don't like the wait at the PMD; maybe it would have been free if I'd gone there.
I am sure I have read somewhere that employers are supposed to cover the cost of residence visas for staff: UAEU must save thousands of dirhams by making staff pay. |

| They are supposed to pay for visas and the medical checkups required to obtain the visa. I didn't know UAEU was scamming their employees for this - I wonder if anyone is pocketing these fees? |

That is the first I have heard of it too helen1.
And if so, when did this start? I am surprised that this hasn't come up in the past since it is so unusual. People here are usually pretty quick to complain about stuff like this.
What year did you arrive Iamherebecause?

| I arrived at UAEU in 1994 and had to pay for my visa then, and have continued to do so every time it has needed renewal. I have also always had to pay for the required blood tests etc. So this is not a new situation. Of course, when I first arrived I questioned this, but was told that UAEU has its own regulations. We also don't get a 'labour card', but only have our university ID cards as proof of employment. |

Hi Spice!!
Labor cards also seem to be something new. I got my first one in '99 on my second contract in Oman. None in Kuwait or the UAE...
Anyone else out there paying for visas and medical tests at their employers? ZU? ECAE? PI? AUS? UoS?

Tdude- This is a scam.
Here is how you can tell
E-Mail:[email protected]
notice the .tk? It is for a website located in a country that give free websites. So spammers set up fake webpages that LOOK EXACTLY like the real thing, but have the information page go to them.
This is a scam. Don't send them any money. |
