I don't get your concern...

If you're going there with your girlfriend, who gives a flying squirrel where you go? Heck, a man could live in central Mongolia and be content if he brings his own girl; that's really the only significant problem small towns ever have, in my opinion.

Are there ANY job possibilities in a place like this? I have a degree in communications and tons of experience working with kids. Would private teaching be possible? Would the market be even more flooded in a town like this? Any advice is surely appreciated.

If you don't mind Hokkaido, you might try subscribing to the Hokkaido Insider.

Sure, but also lots of competition.

By the way, where is "a place like this"? San Francisco is on your avatar.

In what capacity? Where? Using what language?

Not for a work visa, no.

Tell us where you are, first. SF is not exactly a town in my book.

I was referring to Miyazaki. I live and teach Special Ed. in SF right now. I am considering a move to Miyazaki in hopes of landing a job there. I'm being laid off due to budget cuts and will be searching for a job starting in July. I know this is not the ideal time to leave for Japan but I'll have a little nest-egg and the desire to travel and take some chances. I'd also consider Fukuoka or Kagoshima for a year but my dream spot is Miyazaki (yes, I surf Smile.

I feel that my experience in Spec. Ed. might be useful due to the fact that the instructional methods are largely communication-based and very rudimentary in form. Thanks for your input thus far.
