Regarding a typical ESL Job in Vietnam:
Can someone please tell me the details for the following (On Average)
Salary Range:
Hours Worked Per Week
OT Rate if any
Cost of Housing? Free or not:
Pension: Yes / No
I've never worked in Vietnam and many jobs I see fail to mention these things.

We need more information from you.
What is your education? Training? EFL experience? EFL qaulifications?

If people ask about salary, then I think teaching is not the priority. Of course, asking about salary is important.
Over-time? We are not in the West.
Pension? This is a cash job. If there was a pension, what pension fund would it be in? The foreign teacher pension fund, administered by whom? |

Language centre = average $16 per hour
Average working week = 20 hours
Cost of Housing = $300 per person
Pension = No |

Yea, i think he just wanted to hear the AVERAGE income from teachers there. If you teach there please inform us of whats the going rates for different scenarios... THX!!! |

I know guys that have been here for years only making 12 or 13 an hour. They like the school and know how to live cheap. As for me I would not work for that salary, but to each his own.
We must all find our comfort zone.
I don't need a 100 million dong honda 150 either, but i have seen a few new teachers driving them. Sheesh....for 100 million dong you could buy 8 new honda waves, or 3 tricked out Attilas with chrome trim.
My point is.... enjoy your money and your time here. |

I almost had a laugh about the pension and other benefits.... 
It all depends on the job, and your lifestyle. There is no safety net here, and many laws and practices that protected foreigners working and living here in the past have been abandoned. |

Agreed, to each his/hers own. I know people in the US of A that make $12-$13USD per hour, and they live fine. As long as YOUR needs are less than YOUR means, you should be fine! |

This is cash on hand. No problem, if you have family back home or if you are young. I advise all of those coming to get medical insurance somehow if you are going to drive a motorbike or take motorbike taxis (xe oms).
If you even have a minor motorbike accident and and cannot work, or need medical attention, an operation, or a plane ticket out of here, you are on your own.
We are on our own.
Someone said new schools are opening up. I disagree. Not in hcmc they are not. Hours are still declining for teachers, and the early look into the Summer programs so far, are that they are smaller than last. year. We are trying to figure out why, but that is all just guessing and speculating.
Small towns, yes they are looking for teachers. If you can handle being the only foreigner, then you can make it. I know some people that tried it and they were too isolated, and didn't last long.

I work in another country and wanted to compare Vietnam with it. I was asking for information purposes only. Of course salary is a factor but not the only one.
My qualifications are standard:
