...perhaps not a "hot button" topic, but does anyone know if I will have a chance of having the occasional cigar when I am in Abu Dhabi?...will I be allowed in certain places, or at least in my apartment?...I have been reading of the smoking bans, and am hopeful that I can enjoy occasionally...are cigars even sold in the UAE?...can I have them shipped?...thanks! |

Cigars are banned in the U.A.E. and, if found in possession, you WILL be tried. And, after a fair trial you WILL be fairly convicted. Upon conviction, you will be led behind the courthouse and have a bullet put into your ear. Your family will then be billed for the cost of the bullet.
Hold on a minute...no, that's China! Abu Dhabi? They're completely fine. In fact, you can buy them on arrival at AUH at World of Cigar. Enjoy your time and your stoggies! I heartily recommend Ramon Allones!

Dear NCTBA,
"Upon conviction, you will be led behind the courthouse and have a bullet put into your ear."
Will they offer me a blindfold - and a CIGARette?
Regards,
John |

Well, China used to have a money-saving idea:
"In the past the government collected a "bullet fee" (子弹费) from the relatives of the condemned."

And there's always one card in the deck who's happy to put up the whole fee. |

For some reason, the picture in my mind is of an Emirati officer, in his perfectly pressed uniform, bullet held carefully between two fingers, gently placing it into this person's ear...
