| People who come up with misleading tripe like this happiness index do not do the cause of environmentalism any good at all. |

| What do you find misleading? And how does this harm efforts to protect the environment? |

So... since it doesn't really measure "happiness" - they ought to come up with a new name for whatever this is...

| One would think that UAErs would be even less "happy" without A/C in the summer months, but would magically score higher on this particular index. |

The air must be clearer today where you are. How long did it take to get your visa? |

It took a little over a month since I sent all the required papers. |

Mabruk!! (congrats, if you haven't picked up this one in Arabic yet) I do believe that is just a temporary visa and the "real" residence/work visa will be provided after you pass the medical tests in-country.
But... it does give one the confidence to actually pack one's bags.

Shokran!!! Yes, exactly. Technically speaking, it is an "Entry Permit" for employment purposes, but it looks very "official." It shows my university as a "sponsor", my profession, and it has one of the dozen photos I sent them stapled on the top.
I can finally breathe deeply again... Now, time to sell the car, etc. |

An' I jes' received my cancelled passport with my residency visa after applying to the U.S. Passport Agency and paying them the $60 extortion fee to get them to simply do there jobs! I wudda been in a world of hurt if I hadn't got my old passport back with my residency visa!

They always give back your old passport when you get a new one. I have all my passports sitting in a drawer right behind me.

Yup, buttcha gotta rely on the bad ol' USPS to do their J-O-B! When I can't even rely on my "goin' postal" guy to push my 1st class mail down into my lockbox, how am I not supposed ta freak out when my new passport is returned in a "flat-rate" envelope that would easily accomodate the cancelled passport w/o the old one.
When can someone expect a U.S. Gov't employee to do his/her job???

P.s.- One more thing...I haven't voted in the last two national elections...two VERY important elections, in my opinion, as my podunk Registrar of Voters is a Republican...can ya guess how I'm registered??? |
