It is hardly a deal.
Government organisations such as universities do illegal things all the time. Being associated with Bell is meaningless. |

However I think Bell gives a month and three weeks holiday. The two Eids- two weeks and then another week in the second semester and then a month paid on the 10 month of the contract. They also pay a second airfare to the sum of 500 pounds.
Correct me if I am wrong. I work for someone else and yes two months paid holiday at the end of the contract is the norm for direct hire.
Better luck with these agencies. |

It may not be a good deal but it is still a deal, one which literally hundreds of people have accepted.

Sure - but usually 'unofficially' and off the record. I doubt a major government operator would have written contracts which blatantly break the law.

Eid holidays are government mandated (if only for 3-4 days) and do not count towards annual leave totals.

Some places give 60 days paid leave, others 45. |

I was wondering if anyone had any recent information on Kaplan Aspect.
I have an interview with them tomorrow. Has anyone had an interview with them? Does anyone know what kind of questions they ask?
Not sure if I would take the position, since it is a new project and what has been said on this thread makes sense ( complete disorganization the first couple of years), but it doesn't hurt to see what they say. |

| They are now advertising on TEFL.com for a recruitment coordinator for the summer to "help them get teachers for Saudi Arabia." They are so low-grade. |

Yup! If you advertise on TEFL.com, you are, indeed, low-grade!

| Unfortunately 11 month contracts are quite common in Saudi as its the minimum legal requirement under which westerners can be employed. However on the up-side under Saudi law there are a lot of additional religious holidays, which, by the King's decree must be observed. Eid, Hajd to name but two. I feel more important issues are accommodation (shared, single or an allowance), return flights and how many and hours to be 'worked'. Universities often state 20 working hours a week when, in reality, time on campus amounts to far more. |

Dear bollidarking,
" . . . Eid, Hajd to name but two. . ."
There are others??? Darn, was I ever cheated.
Actually, they're both Eids: Eid ul-Fitr and Eid al- Adha
Regards,

Excuse my ignorance, but why are jobs advertised on tefl.com low-grade?
More importantly, where are the good Saudi/Middle East jobs advertised? |

| Could you cite the source for your assertion that 11 month contracts are legal? As for common I have never heard of such things except for very recently and only with Kaplan and Bell. |

No, since that is called a one year contract.
It is a "see how cheap we can get TEFLers for" illegal 11 month "contract." The 12th month is an unpaid (you cannot really call it a contract) time. |

Happier hunting grounds can be found at The Cronicle of Higher Education and www.higheredjobs.com.

Or even right here on Dave's, which tends to have ESL/EFL jobs at all levels. Those two sources advertise rather different job levels. The first has more of the entry level jobs, whereas the second tends to have more tertiary jobs.... and not just ESL/EFL.
The difference to me is that I have only very rarely seen a job on the first that I would apply to, but I have seen some here and in the Higher Education sites.
