hello mrs. lizziebennet,

in our infamous travels through the kingdom there have been a couple of things or twos that we have learned.

We over packed and brought to many unnecessary items of clothing and other miscellaneous pieces.

you will not need most of the shoes that you think you will need. a pair of runners, dress shoes for class (but must be comfortable too), and sandals. summer clothing think tropical. and pack your stuff in a bigger suitcase than necessary, you will accumulate.

So far I have bought 3 abayas, started reading culture shock Saudi Arabia and had 1 arabic lesson.

While the boys play... Laughing I'll give you rather my standard advice as to what I found that I needed. I always took sheets and my pillow because I am picky - most people can find something acceptable there. For the kitchen, I had a rubbermaid (sheet) cake holder (don't know if they even have them any more, but you know the size I mean) and in it I put all my favorite kitchen gadgets and basics. Most of the things I carried about are still in my kitchen now.

It wasn't clear if you are teaching or accompanying your teacher husband. As to shoes, I agree with Grendal. Bring walker/runners, one pair of dress shoes, and both casual and work style sandals. I wore sandals all year for teaching.

Favorite cosmetics... OTC medications if you are choosy. If you are the type that buys whatever is on sale, you will likely find it in KSA. Check to make sure any of your prescription meds are available there... most are.

Yes, I am American... (see under my avatar) but I have to admit that I have never baked cookies... or a cake... or anything else. But, I do eat now and again. Cool Mostly it is the stuff I need because I am such a bad cook.

Oh... you can wear make-up... many of the students put it on with a trowel. They would probably be appalled if you didn't wear any... and they will critique the application of what you do put on. Remember, they cover it up when they go out the door. Since you will not, I would think conservative make-up would be best.

Can't help you with teaching materials as it may depend on your employer... and what level you will be teaching.
