My school showed up with my pay today. But they had no receipt. I asked for one and they say it is impossible. I need a receipt to prove my monthly income for my student loans payments to be calculated.

They said, 'No you don't.' I know better. What a headache. I have an idea what is going on but I don't care. I need the receipt. Is this asking for too much? I am so sick of the Chinese run-around.

UGGGGGHHHHHH!

there often isn't any official pay slip handed out. any time i've ever received one, its been a handwritten payslip that no financial institution back home would ever accept as proof of anything.

bypass your FAO and go to the school finance office and inquire there. if they can't help you, i think you're out of luck.

Why not call the tax office and ask them to insist the school provide the necessary proof of salary and thus paid taxes to the government. Sure, you'll probably get fired, but hey, unless someone tries to force employers to follow the law, you'll keep getting screwed and coming here to ask "why oh way?"

You have to understand a little about Chinese business methods here. The accountants have to declare your salary to various regulatory bodies but the figure that is given to these bodies is not necessarily the same as the pay given to you. Your employers will not be happy giving you an official document that states this discrepancy!

Three and a half years in China.

I just want to give my school a little grief. I am still a little angry that my school apartment was robbed. I found out yesterday another FT's apartment was robbed before I came here.

I know there is nothing I can do. I have photoshop for a receipt.

Thanks for the advice. I just needed to blow off some steam and rock the boat a little.

Another person advocating committing fraud. Sure, just make a fake receipt and submit it to a federally funded system.

Simply call the damn lending agency, and tell them your situation and they'll likely provide a form to you so that you can estimate your earnings.

Each month, our school gets a tax receipt for each teacher and presents it to them with their wages. So it is entirely possible.

Try this, tell them you won't bother them with writing a receipt since the tax office already has the records and you'll go there for a copy.

Ought be interesting.

Type up one yourself and find somebody to put the school's stamp on it; you know, that red ink thing.

Best advice. You need some proof. They are obligated to give it to you, but they obviously don't know how. Show them.

They know how and the official document is available from the accounts office because they are obligated to produce this receipt under labor law of PRC. However, will they give such a document to a FT? See my response a little higher in this thread for reasons why they prefer not to!

If they haven't paid then there will be no record at the tax office and an inquiry will cause an audit...but remember, taxes must be paid if discovered in the rears and be careful that the obligation doesn't fall on you. It is all "accounting" on the type of classification you job tittle holds.

Start with this advice first.

My first year in China the university where I was working gave us a slip every month with pay, taxes, and utilities. Where I work now our contracts list our salaries 'after taxes'(the school pays the taxes). They used to give us a pay slip showing overtime and deductions nothing about taxes), but they stopped about a year ago. Now we get no written record. If we want to know how much was deducted we have to call the FAO. I have no proof, but I suspect that the school is telling the government that all the FTs earn just less than the taxable amount (which is about 4800 yuan I think) so the university doesn't pay any taxes. We all earn considerably more than that base amount.

Of course they had no receipt. Why would they? You hadn't bought anything from them. You confused them by asking for one.

Ask them for a PAY SLIP, a RECORD OF PAYMENT, or something that means the same....
