I am considering coming to Taiwan to teach. I'm interested to know people's opinions on whether they would prefer teaching in public schools or buxibans? What are the advantages/disadvantages to each?
I'm a certified teacher and I have been teaching in Korean hagwons/buxibans for the last 3 years. I'm assuming there are a lot of similarities between the 2 countries private English educ. systems.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone could give some insight into the differences and working conditions of both...

Hello NZ,

In public schools, you can expect the following:

No air conditioning, 30+ students in a class, Chalkboards, Mixed abilities in a class

Private bushibans solve these issues for the most part.

A major difference that doesn't apply to you is that public school teachers have to be a certified teacher. Buxibans don't.
