Exactly
a lot of companies have regional head offices in places like Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong or even the US or Europe and their managers, auditors, technicians come in and out all the time, sometimes as much as once a week. They always have a current visa, enabling them to travel at any time.

The gov knows when you enter but doesn't know when you leave without looking at your passport, that's why they could refuse extension or renewal 'in-country' but with a visa-acceptance letter and 'Visa on Arrival' they don't see your passport so imagine you are out of Vietnam, and after all, if you have a foreign email address, a credit card, a foreign home address and arriving by plane, you're not likely to be a Chinese 'ghost' worker but someone bringing some lovely dollars with you.

They would have to equip ALL border crossings and consulates and embassies with hi-speed IT systems along with a national data base to enforce a maximum number of days rule- Tell that to the little man in Snookyville who has been dishing out 6 month B3s until a couple of weeks ago and he'd fall about laughing.

The new decree that many are worried about is if you are caught working without a WP for 3 months in a six month period, well then, quite rightly you would not be given another VISA.

That's a pretty cool website, actually. Thanks for posting. Better if you pay, evidently. Bookmarked.

Beating the dead horse at this point, but to echo Londo, this boils down to enforcement, to a large degree. Not totally, but to a large degree. Enforcing immigration is probably like enforcing motorbike laws -- in practice, they're more "suggestions," though an official *could* put the hammer down at any random time. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Look it costs $10 to extend your visa for 90 days IF you have a work permit as I posted elsewhere and you do not have to leave the country. Simply fill out the visa extension form from immigration, have your employer stamp it and go to the immigration office with form and copy of WP. hell even if you dont have a WP you can bluff your way and say you have applied for it. Worked for friend of mine. This is cheaper than a 1 year visa.

a. This includes a 6-month grace period beginning July 1.

b. "The decree is null and void to any infringements in the areas of vocational training, sending of laborers abroad under contracts, and social insurance. "

What type of visa was the original that was being extended for $10?

Was a 1 year business visa or 5 year certificate of visa exemption (for us Tays married to Viets). My friend only had a 6 month business visa and did the same thing

Fred, are you saying that 6 mo. visas are back? I heard you can only get them at the Sihanoukville VN consulate, and I don't know if that's still true.

Can you give us details? Where did you get it? In VN or outside? From an agent? How much did it cost? (also was it single entry or multi) Did you have any special qualifications or can anyone get it?

Thanks.

the usual BS
yes with WP any length is possible, depends on expiry of passport, but except for the abberation of one consulate (maybe others) there are NO 6 month visas available without special circumstances (family) or WP, and certainly not 'in country'. me thinks a troll at work or someone who doesn't understand that not everyone has a WP, unless someone is being economical with the the truth. The problem has always been for people WITHOUT wps or Viet spouses.

Having said this, 3 month multis are certainly easy to get and it seems temp. res certs are also easier as are WPs for non teaching, professional/business reasons/positions,

Maybe the powers that be have seen a cock-up in action and decided to relax things a bit. For business people it's as easy as pie, but it seems the question is always 'is this for teaching or business?'

Could somebody please PM me and get me contact info (address and phone number), please, as to WHERE these $65/$75/$90 three-month visa renewals are?

I live in North Central Viet Nam, and a friend of mine (whose visa expires next month) asked me to do some browsing and window shopping for him.....

I travel a fair bit, and I went to travel agents in Da Nang AND in Ha Noi in the past two weeks.......and I COULD NOT find anybody willing to go lower than $200USD for a three month renewal!! I mean, yeah, that's down from the $280 they wanted during the crackdown back in March, but still....WHAT the hell is going on?????

Any info for places to grab one of these less-than-a-hundred-dollar visa renewals would be really appreciated. I will probably have to send him down to Saigon to grab it.....

It's possible, you know how this is the internet, that price and money quotes given online are rarely the truth anyhow.

The same thing happens when people discuss salaries, they always seem to bid their rate about 50 to 75% more than it is. In this situation it could be same but the opposite. Doesn't mean to stop looking though.
