I want to buy a motorcycle for 1000 to 3000 SAR. Can anyone recommend a place where I can go to buy one in Dammam? Thanks in advance.

Hi ganesh77:

Are you freakin crazy?

No. Do not ride a motorcycle. You will be assumed to be the hired help and possibly side swiped! I've seen motorcycles get hit in Saudi. There were two riders on it and they were rolling on the asphalt for about 30 meters after the hit occurred. Traffic just drove around them and continued like nothing happened.

Thanks for your concern.
I live in Jubail Industrial City and will only use the bike on mostly unpopulated roads.

There used to be a Honda shop in Khobar on the road to Dhahran. I'd like to know if it's still there.

I've tried google search using many combinations of key words.. but still have no contact number or address of where to go in Dammam..

A colleague said there are shops that sell Chinese-made bikes for just 1000 or 2000 SAR there..

Yeah, Honda shops in the Middle East sell small Hondas that are made in China and/or India. They are licensed to use the Honda name, but the design is this weird hybrid, most of which is the Honda design from 40 years ago, but with various cost-cutting bits spliced in.

There is a shop in downtown Khobar that sells Indian bikes. Quality is not as good as the pukkah Japanese (or BRITISH !) models. I am old enough to remember when the UK had an indistry producing motorbikes !

Hi Scot 47
Do you have a business name or street name of the shop?
Meanwhile, I'm trying to get some Saudis in admin to find a shop.
With luck on my side, I'll have a bike by the weekend!!

1.Find someone who speaks Urdu and Arabic
2.Go downtown
3.Ask

It might be a good idea to update your Last Will and Testament before venturing out on the road on a motorbike.

I had toyed with the idea of PMing the OP and getting his particulars so I could take out life insurance on him.

Growing up, local wags had it that the general hospital had a Honda Ward, so frequent were the supine arrivals. I date myself, but those were the days when, as far as I can remember, said Japanese manufacturer produced only two-wheeled conveyances.

And I recall as a teenager sliding down a poorly-lit hill, my Honda 50cc going before me as the gravel scattered (sand, hmm, watch for sand!), even if not at speed, but for many years this minor mishap left a scar on my left hip where my pants were no match for the concrete & asphalt.

Much later, KimchiEaters would see me riding a scooter and then a Daerim motorbike, but only on campus. Not for me the hurly burly of Seoul's public roads that would have car doors opening indiscriminately, and cars and trucks turning across traffic, oblivious to the approaching m/bike. (Last I heard, an Irish ESL colleague there was still awaiting settlement from unlicensed motorbike riders who hit his m/bike head on, and on campus, and wrecked his shoulder, and badly. So badly that he seems headed for long-term disability).

OP, kindly re-consider. Failing that, I will gladly share the premium with NCTBA, asking only to be added as co-beneficiary.

From this thread I have concluded one of two things is going on:

a) no one knows where exactly they sell cheap bikes;

b) someone indeed knows but wishes to save me years of medical rehabilitation and a thread full of "told-you-so's".

Shelling out the 15 SAR for a taxi might just be the way to go after all!

Thanks all to who responded..

I thinh he got it.

You think?

G

ps. $4.00 a day = $8'00 round trip. Times 5 days = $40.00 a week. Times 4 = $160.00 a month. Times 10 months = $1600.00 for two semesters.

I get $267.00 a month to cover my transportation. So I see no need to worry about taxi costs.
