I first came to KSA as a teacher in October 1970. 40 years on I am still here.
I have not spent the forty years here but taught in other places too. I know of at least 2 other teachers still here who came on that Saudi Government programme that recruited British teachers to work in secondary and intermediate schools.

Well, Uncle Scott, I will ask Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to reward you with the Elizabeth Golden Pen for your sacrifice, contribution and propagation of her Majesty's English language in the Magic Kingdom and the developing world!!
Uncle Scott, after spending 40 years as an English teacher, in which some of them were/are in the Magic Kingdom, what advice can you give to the new generation of English teachers who are teaching in the Magic Kingdom?
Also, if you were given the chance to go back, are you going to do the same (going to the Magic Kingdom and working there), or change your profession from teaching English to another more rewarding profession? Any thoughts? |

| Maybe I could get a job controlling the cat population. I have some excellent ideas on that front. |

Not so sure our favourite canine would accept a dong from a sassenach queen these days.
But I digress.

My comment is that you could have stayed here for just 4 years and made the same money that you made here in 40 years! (let's say you were here the whole time)
One of my friends works at NCB and he told me about some of the British and American hotshots at the bank. One of them earns SR. 150,000/month. So that's 10 times what you earn. Another (the CIO) earns SR. 450,000/month. Yes, you read that right. That's a million quid, or actually equivalent to a 2 million quid salary in the UK taking taxes and cost of living into account .
One of them is an ex-teacher (French & Spanish) from Wales who moved into banking some years ago (he doesn't have any specialized education for banking/finance)... and he gets SR. 65,000/month. That's 4 times yours, with the same education as you have.
Now... do you have any comments? |

Be gentle on Uncle Scott, we do not want him to get a heart attack in the Magic Kingdom!
It seems Uncle scott is not good at banking operations, he has some excellent ideas on how to control the cat population!! |

OK, in that case, congratulations Scot! BTW, how many of those 40 years in the Kingdom of Humanity?
I shall be making an identical thread in 2043 . |

Go figure. Giving numbers to a mathematics-ician is like giving raw meat to a lion.
