Could anyone give me any advice or provide comments about Cleverlearn Ltd, Vietnam? That is, their reputation, teacher training, resources, etc. I can find very little information in this regard.
Any information would be much appreciated. |

It's a franchise, so it depends on the specific location. SaigonESL.com appears to regard it well in general. I've talked to the owner of the one not in Q7. He is Vietnamese and seems to be pretty fair minded and helpful. Don't know the specific location -- there are multiple -- though. What location are you interested in? |

Thanks CThomas. The location is Ward 6, District 3. I'll check out the URL you provided.

Dist 3 is their main branch. They have their fingers into everything, basically and their students are varied. They have had some changes in the past and at times were on the brink of bankruptcy, but I think they have got themselves together now.
It's not a bad place to work and many teachers have been there for longer than a year, so it can't be terrible. |

I have not worked there, but I was offered a senior position. I did not accept it for personal reasons that had nothing to do with Cleverlearn. My impression from what I saw and heard from people who work there is that it is quite good. Great facilities. I was impressed with the management and support.
I think you can't go far wrong. |

Thank you all. I'm hoping they'll get back me too soon and offer me a contract. I'll be new to Vietnam, let alone Ho Chi Minh City, so I'd looking forward to a new start & keeping an open mind regarding work & life there.

So, you aren't in Vietnam, yet?
IMO, I think you should come to Vietnam first and then look around. When schools sign a contract with you abroad, it gives them the advantage, and they can low-ball you.
I'm not saying CL is doing this, and you don't have to follow through with anything when you arrive, but when you are on the ground and in person, you have more leverage.
Good luck, and keep us posted. |

You can expect to be paid about $15. per hour. But only if you have experience. Not the greatest in that respect, but their campus on N. Thi Minh kai is supurb, just across from the park. Look around. |

Ahhh, good point. I'd assumed you needed to be sponsored by a company first, so they will provide Work Permit hence visa to enter Vietnam.
I'm doing things a little conservatively. Is there another method, i.e. hang around using a tourist visa and find work that way? A fun way of doing it but I'm a little green in this regard.
Thanks guys and have good Christmas! |

Yes, you have it backwards. You get a visa, enter Vietnam, find a job, then your employer helps you renew your visa and begins the Work Permit process. Or you get a job before you arrive, then your employer begins the Work Permit process for you. In any case, the visa comes first, and you get that yourself. |

Hi, I've been reading your post about Cleverlearn and was wondering if you accepted a job with them? I'm in HCMC and have an interview with them on Tuesday - could you offer me any advice? Many thanks. |

They expect you to edutain your class.
You must include a game, even for an adult class!

Erm, expect to do your demo to a bunch of staff pretending to be Vietnamese kids. Also expect to be paid less than any of the other schools. Can't say what they're like to work for, but those two factors put me off even applying. |

It would be professional of them to tell people BEFORE the lesson that the idea is to do a mock up of teaching to children or teenagers. (And if this were the case, I would have never used the materials they gave me to use.) They wasted an hour of my time. CleverLearn can go Eff themselves. They were extremely disingenuous and unprofessional.
