I teach at Sohar college of Applied Science. It is a disaster. I hear that Sur and Rustaq are complete disasters as well. Forced Omanisation is really bringing on the results they want. My students complain about the lack of books and the lack of coordination here on campus. Teachers are often required to teach the entire semester without books simply because of a manifest inability to manage. Here at the college they hire and fire through Hawthorn's chained dog. If you need to work among the colleges, be very careful and then move on when you can.

So... they are demanding that they get paid more money to attend college... have easier exams... and be guaranteed a job when they graduate.
Not exactly what I would consider a reflection of any maturity. Perhaps someone should point out that in no democratic country do students receive a free education, get paid an allowance to attend, be able to set the level of the exams, or be guaranteed a job.

Agreed with VS and others here.
I use the shawarma analogy, teacher, we like shawarma, we don't know how to cook!!!
Have your mom and dad wipe your ass for you at 19 or 20, and you won't learn any independence... |

Gosh! Now, let's see a showing of hands! How many of you would feel comfortable with a 50-50 chance of surviving the treatment of one of these prospectives "nurses". How many would like a four time "do over" of an operation?
Something is needed to wake these people up! |

A friend of mine has used a similar situation in class during exam time. Imagine you're flying. Which pilot do you want--the one who cheated on his exams, or the one who studied and passed his exams legitimately?
No idea if the message gets through, though... |

"In the Wilayat of Rustaq, nearly 200 students held a sit-in at 10am in the Applied Technology Science College which lasted for more than two hours. Their demands included the guarantee of employment after graduation and increasing the allowance for the students.
They also demanded activation of the students board and grant of a broadband Internet connection instead of the slow net facility.
The college officials met the students and promised them that their demands will be met."

I doubt this is accurate. |

I have heard from an Omani at Sohar College of Applied Disaster that the Canadians were in charge once upon a time back when they were setting up the colleges. The college hummed like a finely tuned guitar until Omanization happened. Since then the colleges have been plummeting like a rock thrown off of Jebel Akthar.
