I just finished my first year at university in America, but I'm going to apply (and hopefully transfer) to a university in France to finish my degree. Will this affect my ability to get English teaching jobs after I graduate? Most of the jobs I've seen only require a college degree, TEFL certification, and being a native English speaker, so I would think having a bachelor's from a French university wouldn't be a problem, but I'm not entirely sure. |

Several countries (in Asia) immigration services require you to be both anglophone (native speaker) AND have a degree from an anglophone country before they will allow you a visa and/or work permit to be an ESL teacher.
It may also factor in (against you) for the better employers in most Asian countries.

In Europe it wouldn't matter, though as a US citizen, your opportunities there are mostly limited to Central/Eastern regions, barring work/study programmes sponsored by your university. Basically, it will be your nationality that limits you here, not where you earned your degree. |

It could open doors for you. But you will find for example in China the situation where someone with a degree working side by side with someone without one and they are both paid the same salary.
Sad but true. |
