I just finished my first year at university in America, but I'm going to apply (and hopefully transfer) to a university in France to finish my degree. Will this affect my ability to get English teaching jobs after I graduate? Most of the jobs I've seen only require a college degree, TEFL certification, and being a native English speaker, so I would think having a bachelor's from a French university wouldn't be a problem, but I'm not entirely sure.

Several countries (in Asia) immigration services require you to be both anglophone (native speaker) AND have a degree from an anglophone country before they will allow you a visa and/or work permit to be an ESL teacher.

It may also factor in (against you) for the better employers in most Asian countries.

In Europe it wouldn't matter, though as a US citizen, your opportunities there are mostly limited to Central/Eastern regions, barring work/study programmes sponsored by your university. Basically, it will be your nationality that limits you here, not where you earned your degree.

It could open doors for you. But you will find for example in China the situation where someone with a degree working side by side with someone without one and they are both paid the same salary.

Sad but true.
