I admit that I hear voices in my head, but one of them isn't a squirrel!

It's not even a "secret squirrel"!

Of course in the real world it is a simple thing called math... you know a Delta (a year long diploma) vs a 2 year MA... go figure.

In the UK, most MAs are only one year... so it may very well be true that a British MA is pretty close to a DELTA, but I wouldn't compare either of them to my MA. (a topic that is beat to death in every ME faculty lounge)

No - I'm sure a UK MA can't be compared to one from Cairo. Laughing

My MA in the States was one year - but that was due to my taking lots of credit hours each semester; spring, summer, and fall. And fitting in the thesis
as well. Plus, I was working part-time.

But I was a lot younger then Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy.

John

Same with mine. It took about 16 months, but that was 3/4 time in Japan and working full-time at an Eikaiwa! Crying or Very sad

Ah nothing like snide comments from the peanut section. Laughing It is not as though it was from Cairo University. It was from the fully US accredited American University in Cairo. It was a program that I can with good conscience recommend to anyone, especially under the Fellowship. Small classes with experienced professors who were always ready and eager to help out... providing personal resources for research back in the pre-internet times. Quite a few well-known people in the field passed through this program.

And yes... I put it head and shoulders above any of the programs that the Brits that I worked with who got MAs in the UK at the same time. They did much less than half the work that was required under my program and they were left with very narrow knowledge. Not that I wasted my time trying to explain that to them. Their 'superiority complexes' were too ingrained. Laughing

My MA took 2 years plus 2 summer sessions because being a Fellowship program, full loads aren't possible most semesters. The great thing about a Fellowship (besides it's being a free MA) is that you are able to test what you are learning in your classroom every day with your students.

Fair enough on the point regarding your MA, but as someone who did an intensive DELTA as well as an MA after that, I can safely say that there is a big difference between a DELTA and an MA.

PS - An intensive DELTA takes only 9 weeks. The extensive ones are up to a year long, with the same content.
