| So, what is your personal feeling about your fellow FTs? Just your general impression. Do they have your respect? Like any poll, it's not perfect, so no comments on the categories please; just vote and add your comments on FTs in China. |

| I've met all of the above, in equal quantities. I would have voted for all if given the opportunity. |

In such an unregulated industry it's easy to come across all five types and I have seen them all.
At my current place of employment one FT goes from 2 to 3 and back again - and the rest I would rate as 4s. We all respect one another generally speaking but the respect for the 2/3 comes and goes depending on what he's up to at that moment in time. As for the students we all teach the same classes (with minor variations) and I know most of them (the students themselves) respect us for the effort we put into the job, again less so for the first FT listed above. |

I was talking to some of your students, and they said they couldn't tell the difference between the 2/3 and the rest of you guys. You all look like a bunch of white monkeys to them.

This is a really nasty poll based around a competitive 'winners and losers' neo-liberal critique (mentality) where a certain proportion of the population are deemed to be surplus to economic requirements.
Do it the service it deserves and ignore it. |

This poll, as nasty as it may be, is based on the comments made by forum members over the years. It is not based on a "winners vs. losers" approach, but more on a "professional vs. unprofessional" one. Certainly you are free to construct your own, less-biased version. "Neo-liberal"? Geez, I saw one of those once. It was riding on a unicorn.

0, believe me when I tell you I show up sober and well-prepared. That, and if I ever wear loose-fitting shorts to class I always make sure I have underwear on before I prop my legs up on a desk to relax. The students really appreciate this extra effort. |

| I've seen a lot of early 20's lately who can easily get a job back home but are very selective in their job thus prefer the laid back life. |

Most of the FTs I've known and worked with were good workers, intent upon fulfilling their contracts and being the best teachers they can be. The young sex tourists who arrive sporting backpacks and goatees wash out pretty fast.
I have worked with psychos who made life an unremitting hell for everyone around them. They, too move on.
In my own experience, there are the westerners who have "other" jobs doing some sort of engineering work or who have some sort of business that allows them to stay in China. Invariably, they take the private teaching jobs at home schools. They are part of the mix and are often the ones who bring negative attention to the actual teachers. |

"Feelings" aren't exactly professional ways to assess FTs. Asking for an opinion is one thing, manipulating it is another one.
Aside feelings, i have experiences. Local employers accept varieties of FTs. The requirements fluctuate. It depends on who hires, when they hire, how many FTs are applying, and what the applicants are willing to work for.
So, FTs that aren't up to it, aren't up to it for varieties of reasons. And, local employers are pretty good with "surprises".

Sounds like a traditional evaluation form |

I'm not asking for an in-depth assessment or professional evaluation. I'm asking for people's feelings and opinions. If you don't like it, feel free to 'manipulate' your own poll. I already stated that this one, like any poll, has weaknesses, and asked that people refrain from making comments on the questions themselves. But there always going to be some bozo who can't get it. The idea is to provide a range from very bad to very good. Nobody has to justify their opinion here and I'm not going to justify the poll. If you don't like it, move on.
