Ddeubel I think you've confused "horn of plenty" with "horn of Africa'. Dissapointing for such an apparently vastly experienced world traveller you claim to be.
Noun: horn of plenty
A goat's horn filled with grain and flowers and fruit symbolizing prosperity
- cornucopia
http://www.wordwebonline.com/en/HORNOFPLENTY
Noun: Horn of Africa
A peninsula of northeastern Africa (the easternmost part of Africa) comprising Somalia and Djibouti and Eritrea and parts of Ethiopia
http://www.wordwebonline.com/en/HORNOFAFRICA
This region of Africa has never been known as the horn of plenty. It is mostly arid desert and hardly a cornucopia/land of milk or honey. It has long suffered from famine, war and so on. So what is happening now is neither unexpected, new, or extraordinary as you suggest.
Quick geography test for you:
Is Sydney the capital of Australia?
Is Africa one country?
Is Niagara the worlds biggest waterfall?
Spot the mistake: "Straights of Magellan".
Who invented "Palestine"?
etc etc |

????????????? Who is the simpleton? I'll give you a hint, I'm the pie man and it's on your face.
Though, you wouldn't know an allusion or literary nuance if it hit you in the face. It was a PUN hun. But you don't even have a horse to ride on.
My god. How many brain cells do you have left? Please refrain from such attacks or once again, you'll get swatted in return. Though I hope you keep trying to pull out a plum with all your thumbs....

Okay, here's the thing. It was an inane, not to say inept, pun, and we all tried, until Junior couldn't resist, to ignore it. But he is right. It was inane and inept.
But, Junior, that is the hallmark of posts in this forum by ddeubel, so it's high time you joined the rest the rest of us in ignoring his obvious idiocies and begin to focus on his less obvious ones. For instance, the idea that the Islamist Courts Union was a better alternative for Somlia than the chaos that preceded it and that will most likely follow it.
It's time you learned, Junior, that in ddeubelspeak, nothing is more important than a baby. In ddeubelspeak, no war has ever been justified that has caused the death of any putative non-combatant. In ddeudelspeak, the emotional power of a dead baby or mother trumps anything.
Unfortunately, it's likely that the ddeubels of this world will end up driving the policies of the West. In fact, the Islamists, et al, count on it. |

"Civilians killed in Somalia raids (al Jazeera)
Clan elders and residents of southern Somalia have said that about 100 civilians were killed in US and Ethiopian air attacks this week.
A senior US official said the US had only carried out one raid in Somalia and no civilians had died.
The raid also missed three senior al-Qaeda figures wanted over bombings in Kenya and Tanzania, he said.
Eight to 10 "terrorist targets" were killed but the United States was still in pursuit of the three most wanted suspects, the official told reporters on condition of anonymity.
"All I can say ... is that it was a targeted strike at al-Qaeda connected or affiliated people," he said.
The Pentagon has said the operation was prompted by "credible intelligence" that the "principal al-Qaeda leadership" in east Africa was in the area that was hit by an AC-130 gunship on Monday."

Ooh dear, ddouble will be all over that. Better Osama goes free to bomb the US again, than a single little old lady should die in the crossfire. |

The raid targetted 3 members of Al Quaeda. People carrying out the bidding of osama. Fanatical bombers.
Using the word "osama" was an allusion, a literary nuance. Bit like saying "uncle sam". or maybe as in the 2nd world war, the allies talked of "pushing back Hitler'. Do you think they meant actually walking up to the personage of Adolf Hitler and pushing him by hand down the street?
Ah.. lets conjure up ddebbel again...

"Somalia declares state of emergency (al Jazeera)
Somalia's parliament has declared a state of emergency for three months to restore security after several weeks of war.
Members of parliament passed the vote in Baidoa on Saturday, the town that acted as the interim seat of government until Somali and Ethiopian troops ousted the Council of Islamic Courts that controlled much of the south.
"A three-month state of emergency has been passed. If need arises for the government to extend the period then the president will have to ask parliament for approval," Osman Elmi Boqore, the second deputy speaker, told parliament."

"Somali parliament votes in favor of martial law
Government tries to regain control after battles with Islamic movement" AP
"MOGADISHU, Somalia - Lawmakers on Saturday authorized the government to declare martial law as the countrys internationally recognized leaders struggled to assert their authority after battling an Islamic movement that had controlled much of southern Somalia.
Parliaments approval allows the government to impose martial law for a period of three months starting at a time of its choosing, said deputy parliament speaker Osman Ilmi Boqore, who made the announcement during a parliament session broadcast live on a government-owned radio station.
Boqore said 154 members of Somalias transitional parliament voted by a show of hands in favor of a government motion to impose martial law in the country. He said two lawmakers voted against the motion."

"AU delegation arrives in Somalia (al Jazeera)
African Union officials have arrived in Somalia to finalise plans for a peacekeeping force as itnerim government troops search for weapons after Ethiopian troops helped them win a two-week war against the Union of Islamic Courts.
Somalia's weak interim government says it wants African peacekeepers to be deployed as soon as possible.
Abdirahman Dinari, a spokesman for the interim government, said on Sunday: "They came to meet with government officials in order to discuss how the African Union troops could be deployed."
"They will visit several places in the country ... and they'll meet with senior government security officials. We hope the African troops will be deployed as soon as possible."

Conducting house-to-house searches, also closing media organizations"
"MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali troops and allied Ethiopian soldiers conducted house-to-house searches Monday, pursuing gunmen who carried out an attack in the northeastern part of the capital, residents said.
Four rocket propelled grenades were fired at a convoy of Ethiopian and government troops Sunday night in Mogadishus Hurwa district, destroying one military vehicle and triggering a 30-minute gunbattle, residents said.
Residents in Hurwa district have stopped sending their children to school as businesses and schools were closed, said Shine Moalim Hussein, a resident in the district. Ethiopians and Somali troops are carrying out house-to-house searches."

Eritrea warns of Somali 'quagmire' (al Jazeera)
The president of Eritrea has warned that any efforts to deploy African Union troops in Somalia would be doomed to failure.
In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera, Isaias Afewerki also said that the African country has not seen the last of the Council of Islamic Courts.
The group was forced to flee its strongholds in the south of the country, including the capital Mogadishu, by Somali government troops with the support of Ethiopian forces in a war launched just before Christmas.
Afewerki's comments came as a senior UN envoy held talks in Mogadishu on Thursday with Abdullahi Yusuf, the Somali president, to discuss the deployment of African peacekeepers.
