My grandma sent me a check for my birthday. Will I be able to cash this here or will I just get strange looks?

My Dad did this to me a couple of years ago as well. I went to the Korea Exchange Bank in my town. I had to sit at the international side of the of bank, and it took a bit of time to do it but they were able to cash/exchange it for. I took a hit in the exchange rates and then the bank fees to do it but it is possible. Now I just ask them if they are going to send me money please either send it as straight cash or send it to my mother for a direct deposit into my stateside account. It's easier that way.

No problem glad I could help. As I said, it may take a while especially if you are in a smaller town. If you can get to one of the larger cities it might be easier/faster.

That's what I'll probably end up doing. She mailed this check to me over a month ago and sinse then has given me some more money (through deposit) and I don't really want to have to ask her to deposit more.

ha. my aunt did this.

i endorsed it, mailed it back to the states, and had a friend deposit it for me. Then I sent a very grateful email to my aunt and let her know what i had to do.
