My grandma sent me a check for my birthday. Will I be able to cash this here or will I just get strange looks?

Thanks.

My Dad did this to me a couple of years ago as well. I went to the Korea Exchange Bank in my town. I had to sit at the international side of the of bank, and it took a bit of time to do it but they were able to cash/exchange it for. I took a hit in the exchange rates and then the bank fees to do it but it is possible. Now I just ask them if they are going to send me money please either send it as straight cash or send it to my mother for a direct deposit into my stateside account. It's easier that way.

Thanks a lot. I'll give it a try on Monday.

No problem glad I could help. As I said, it may take a while especially if you are in a smaller town. If you can get to one of the larger cities it might be easier/faster.

Wouldn't it be cheaper if you ask her to deposit the same amount in your bank account back home and just withdraw the cash?

That's what I'll probably end up doing. She mailed this check to me over a month ago and sinse then has given me some more money (through deposit) and I don't really want to have to ask her to deposit more.

i endorsed it, mailed it back to the states, and had a friend deposit it for me. Then I sent a very grateful email to my aunt and let her know what i had to do.

I've only been able to cash it if it was a $50 minimum. If it wass less than $50, then I had to wait until I got another cheque (to put me over the $50 threshold) before they would cash it.
