Survey says...!: Backpeddle. CYA. Whatever.
You were discussing surveillance, cousin. Covert observation...as in your sarcastic suggestion "Let's have surveillance, too."
"I'll also survey myself," then, does not follow "Let's have surveillance, too." The verb you were looking for is "to surveil."
For future reference: do try to speak clearly. Carry on... |

That's just overly cynical.

You baited me.

Interesting how so many morally correct, Socialist-leaning, advanced European Community nation-states still compel their citizenry to enlist...

"universal" would imply that the whole world undergoes military service.
Its like the "world series". Duh, hello, America is the only country aside from maybe cuba that plays beseball.
Where do they get off thinking they are the only country on the planet? |

And by the way, who said surveillance had to be covert?
Surveillance is the monitoring of behavior. Systems surveillance is the process of monitoring the behavior of people, objects or processes within systems for conformity to expected or desired norms in trusted systems for security or social control. Clinical surveillance refers to the monitoring of diseases or public healthrelated indicators (for example symptoms indicating an act of bioterrorism) by epidemiologists and public health professionals.

Although the word surveillance in French literally means "watching over",[1] the term is often used for all forms of observation or monitoring, not just visual observation.

I never said that. You're putting words in my mouth.
Watch it, professor. |

ROFL. And the backpeddle goes on.
You were discussing "surveillance" in the context of covert, government-sponsored surveillance. Say what you will.
Got under your skin, did I...? Good. |

Yes, I was discussing watching people, genious.
But your black/white mind can't grasp the plurality in meanings. Your own hate blinds you.
And hey, stop following me. I made a bet with my friend that you'd follow me, and you did. So, HA! You stalker! |

Really?
Is that what they mean when they talk about universal healthcare?
Healthcare for the whole world?
Screw that.
For cripes sake, that means healthcare for the whole damn universe!
Heck if I'm paying to cover Martians. |

Almost as brilliant as a unitarian blaming it on the christian right. |
Good try. Where do you get that I'm placing blame from my initial post? I simply posted a link to a bill.

| I say, pass a draft, and only give exemptions for religious, or ethical, purposes, and then require alternative service of those who are exempted. |
Desultude, what makes you think the draft this time will be any more fair than the last one? At any rate, the military doesn't want more raw recruits who have come against their will. They don't want to flood the military with drug addicts (whom they still screen for and kick out) or other high-potential morale problems.
I understand where you are coming from, there is something odd about Bush holding one hand behind our back while we fight a war (it was done before, though, in the 1860s). However, the draft is not the best solution. |

You're referring to everyone serving?
People were allowed to hire proxies, right? |

The whole point of the universal service proposal is to force the "ruling class" (i.E. Congress, etc.) to deal with the real cost of war.
When the Bush twins are put in the position of having to serve, and the sons and daughters of the senators and congress-people, then they might think seriously about commiting the U.S. to further bloody adventures.

| I have to agree with Desultude. When you have a volunteer army you are by nature disassociating the middle and upper classes from any conflict that the country engages in. Look at who enlists in the military, it is overwhelmingly lower class people straight out of highschool who are attracted by the bonuses and immigrants who want to bring their families over to America. These are social groups that are easy to control and who are more supportive of the military institutions because they feel indebted to them. If we had universal service we would incorporate more of the middle and upper classes into picture and this would make conflict even less desirable than it is now. Sure there is going to be some cheating by the upper classes to get their kids out of active combat, but, unfortunately, that's part of what we have to deal with by not being born with a silver spoon up our asses (yeah, I know it's bleeped, but you all know what it says). No, I wouldn't want to join the army right now, but I don't think we would be at war (at least in Iraq) if we had a conscript army. The support of the middle class is possibly the most powerful voice in this country and instead of thinking about their sons and daughters, they thought about cheap gas at the pump. |

A "draft" is the institutionalizing of slavery. It is a fundamental retarding of the state-citizen-government relationship. The state does not own the people, and cannot command them to go to war. This is the elementary logic of liberty.
But in a world of income taxes, property taxes, drug laws, national ID cards and other violations of liberty we cannot be surprised when the government finally decides that we belong to them. |
