Hey,
I was going to mention this before but didn't think it deserved it's own thread...so, I'm hijacking yours. Sorry. As I was paying for my stuff at Watson's drugs here in Hong Kong I saw a stack of toothpaste boxes. The brandname? CHINKY! Either the manufacturers are completely clueless, or someone is having a great laugh. I should write to the company or something...

I like the Clinx Anti-Calculus. |

| What is everybody basing their opinions on? Are there certain chemicals that you get in Arm & Hammer that you don't get in the Korean brands here? |

Baking soda. It's my favorite brand at home, too. |

No, it provides more abrasion (in a good way) to get the bad stuff off, in the same way that you can use baking soda to clean your sink. Arm and Hammer does have a whitening toothpaste as well though, I think. |

Arm and Hammer has baking soda, flouride, and some versions have peroxide
| Arm and Hammer website wrote: |
As a cleaning agent, baking soda is less abrasive than virtually any other cleaning agent used in toothpastes. Less abrasion means less tooth wear, which helps keep your teeth healthier, longer. And when it comes to cleaning, recent studies indicate that baking soda in high concentrations, like those found in most ARM & HAMMER toothpastes, break down into tiny particles that are able to penetrate enamel crevices and remove food particles and deep stain embedded there. Other cleaning agents, like silica, dont readily break down into such tiny particles, so they are too big to clean inside the enamel crevices. |
Colgate has Triclosan
| Colgate website wrote: |
Triclosan, which is used to help reduce plaque and gingivitis. The Gantrez copolymer enables Triclosan to continue working in the mouth for 12 hours. Without the copolymer, Triclosan would be rapidly lost from teeth and gums, reducing its clinical effect. Colgate Total toothpastes are the ONLY ones with this unique Triclosan/Gantrez copolymer system. They also contain fluoride for protection against cavities, are effective in reducing tartar, and provide long-lasting fresh breath protection. |

an el cheapo gift??? I just spent 5,300 won on a tube of Aquafresh today. I am not so sure if I trust the stuff here either. The last time I was in the states they had to use a laser pick to clean my teeth and I had to get root scaling done on one tooth. It could have been the fact that I let nearly 3 years slide without getting a professional cleaning. I was too scared to see a dentist here, so I put it off for over 2 years. My dentist back home told me not to do that again. So far, it's been 1 year and I have to make myself go by the end of April. Man, I just don't trust these dentists here. One told me I had a cavity when I really didn't back in 2001. I didn't let him drill a perfectly good tooth. I have NEVER had a cavity. I knew he was lying. My dentist back home in 2002, said A-OK. Watch out here! |
