I teach 4 and 5 year-olds at my school. Yesterday, as the kids waited for lunch, I heard one of the tables erupt in laughter. This is common, but when the laughter continues for a while, you know something is up, and have to go check it out. One of the other teachers was closer, and I was a bit busy with another student, so I assumed she would check it out. She didn't. The laughter continued to get louder, so I decided I should go over. What I saw when I got there ruined my lunch. One of the boys had gotten a bloody nose, and instead of freaking out, the Korean kids thought it was funny. So to "play to the crowd", the boy blew his nose and spit blood all over the table, the floor, the walls, and the other students. His face and clothes were covered in blood, as were many of the students.
After it was over, and a kleenex had been stuffed up the kids nose, he and a buddy kept pulling it out and trying to "write" on the table with the "red ink".
Anyway, the dry air is causing a lot of bloody noses these days. Here comes winter! |

Well, they're too young (one hopes), so the animation explanation of nosebleeds is out. (the fountaining nosebleed indicates lust)
Maybe he just beat himself up, emulating his favorite crazy performer?

For the record, we're averaging about 2 nosebleeds a day now.
Thank goodness, no more like the one I mentioned above! |

In each of my 10 kindy classes, a least one kid per day seems to have great wads of tissue up one nostril... which isn't very surprising considering there's always one or two in my "audience" with his or her little finger jammed right up there in a very crude exploratory fashion. Where's the emoticon for "I'm going to barf?" |
