Had to bring this thread back up.

I was outside 3 Alley Pub this weekend when I decided to go the bathroom. There was a Hi Seoul festival this weekend in Itaewon, so my crew decided this weekend that we were going to stay outside, instead of going into 3 Alley. We have been in there many times, and spent thousands of dollars there before (including on two stags nights).

As I walked into the bar to go the bathroom, I overheard Gunther's partner saying to me "Can I help you?", to which I replied, "I am going the bathroom". He asked again, "Can I help you?" I again replied, "I am going the bathroom". (I had some better replies flashing through my head, but I really just wanted to go the bathroom.) He replied, "That is not a public bathroom". Gunther said, "Get out of here". I turned to both of them and said "Me and my friends have been here many times, drank thousands of dollars of alcohol here, had stag parties here, and your telling me that because tonight I am not in your place drinking that I can't use your bathroom?" Gunther and his partner were a little bit uncomfortable, because I don't think there were used to having somebody stand up to them, much less make a racket while they were behind the bar. The partner said, "You can't use it." I turned to Gunther, and he nodded his head. I turned to both of them, and told them "Your ****ing *s*h*les, you two need to get your head out of your *s*es. You just lost a whole pile of customers permanently now because of your attitudes."

3 Alley Pub can suck eggs. I can assure you that there is a now a rather large group of us who will never go there again.

I think the bottom line is that Gunther just plain doesn't like punks.

I've logged plenty of time on a bar stool in there and have always been treated very well and called by name after only my first few visits.

I've partied after hours with Gunther, his wife and friends at other spots and he always seemed like a decent guy to me.

But, maybe he has a dark side I haven't seen.

Four pages of hand wringing and pissing and moaning over a freaking BAR. Christ almighty. It should be simple ... if you don't like it, don't go. I don't see what all the hoopla is about for yet another pale imitation of a 'Western pub' in Korea, with overpriced slop for food and overpriced booze. I once had the misfortune of ordering their 'calimari' and it was a freaking disgrace. Not to mention the last time I was there it was 8,000 won for a pint of Stella! Highway robbery.

The wait staff were hopeless (like much of the rest of Itaewon), a rather surly, slow lot that were generally disinterested in doing anything that might resemble work. The atmosphere was loud and unpleasant, full of testosterone and alcohol fueled belligerence, mostly coming from the group of bleary-eyed degenerates sitting at the bar tossing dice and swilling from an extraordinarily large glass boot. Judging by their levels of drunkeness, they had clearly been there far too long. Kind of sad for a bunch who appeared to be in their forties, some with wedding bands on one hand.

So I didn't go back. End of story. I'll stick to my local hof, thank you very much.

I've always found Gunter to be fair. I don't go his bar a lot, but when I do, he'll wave and ask how's it going when I enter his bar. He'll ask what I want and will deliver the drink quickly. I've sat, talked and joked with him at his brother in law's bar. Gunter's a far better barkeep than his brother in law, even though I spend much more time in the brother in law's place.

If you don't like it, I'd suggest you choose another establishment.
