I am. And, I feel the majority of poster here are.
I don't hate the place, I don't love it. Korea's just, as they say, "so-so"... Sure, I love to make fun of Korea and get a good laugh out of the place, cuz in many ways Korea is just a 14 year old boy trying to be cool. What can you do but chuckle, swipe'em across the head and say in a condescending way, "That'a boy!"...That's what I think people don't understand about "Dave's"... VERY few people here actually "hate" Korea. We're just amused with it and continually amazed with the wackiness of it.
I will say though, being in the middle causes some confusion for me. I really don't understand either side of the spectrum. On one side, you have the folk who just love Korea. Sorry, but how sad was your life back home that you prefer this place? Did you not have any friends .... no family? I really pity you if this is where you really want to be.
Then you have the people that just hate the place? Why bother? Man, life here is so easy. Easy job, easy money, easy fame. You just have to learn to roll with it. If you're so miserable here, chances are you're gonna be miserable everywhere.
So, to the newbies who love to play the "go home" card: don't be so silly. The hate on this board is rare, and most of the time, it isn't even hate. It's just a bunch of     |

Not sad at all. Plenty of friends and family. I do what makes me happy. I don't live my life to make my family and friends happy. Anywhere you live is what you make of it.
My advice to you middle of the roaders? Buy a car or a motorcycle, travel around. Make it a point to see as much of Korea and Asia as you can.
I'm here for the adventure and the vacation time suits my lifestyle perfectly.
I pity people like you who really don't want to be here, but are sadly just chasing the almighty $$$.
If Korea wasn't the place I really wanted to be, I'd find the place that is. You should, too. |

I see what you're saying, but in no way did I mean you should be living to please your family and friends. Just wondering, why were you (the general "you", not you specifiaclly) so sad/lonely/pitiful/desperate back home that Korea is such a great place.
Good on you, you're having a nice time checking out Korea. My criticism is leveled at those who don't ever want to leave.
As for me, not chasing the $$$. But for those who are here just for the money, hell, if it's a year or two, why not? It's a nice little way to set up a tidy little saving. |

Thanks for your honesty--we could use more of that around here.
My only reaction is that in China few expats would say that. They either love it or hate it, most being of the former opinion.
And that is what I find revealing about expats in Korea, namely, that there attitude is often at best blase. Hardly ever do I hear a sincerely felt ringing endorsement of this place. |

| I love it, but mostly because I feel like I'm on the world's longest vacation. I stay up late every night, sleep in late, spend the majority of my day genuinely having fun (I love teaching, and kids are just fun to be around). I have disposable income. I spend most of my weekends either taking road trips or just lazily tooling around town on my bike. I have met lots of interesting people here. What's not to love? All of the minor annoyances I just ignore, I'm too busy enjoying myself to complain about things. |

And, I mean, what is so wrong with that? Why does every place on Earth have to be OMGAMAZINGASTONISHINGGOGOGOGOGOG?
Can't a place just friggin' exist? Look at Delaware in the U.S. Who the hell lives there? And yet, someone does.
