Kinda surprised nobody has mentioned the anniversary of the massacre. I guess it has been done to death... |

Maybe more than any other city in Korea, they really seem to interchange the K and G more than say, Gangnam. I rarely see it written Kangnam. That's my only opinion on this. |

It was not a massacre, it was a government quelling an illegal rebellion. |

if that floats your boat. Except the War of Independence wasnt organized by communist agents seeking to destablize a country. |

The country was destabilizing itself just fine without Nork agitators.
Do you think they weren't pro-democracy protesters? Or do you think they were pro-democracy protesters, but were being misled and steered by Nork agitators? |

I dont think they were pro-democracy demonstrators. I think that "pro-democracy" in South Korea has always really meant pro-Pyongyang. Just look at how the "pro democrracy" leaders have ruled this country: 2 totally failed administrations in a row. bend over for Uncle Jong-Il |

Well, they haven't been a democracy for very long. I hope and believe that their government will continue to become more transparent and more representative of public opinion.
I think a lot of the protesters were sympathetic to the North Koreans, and many erroneously believed the DPRK was some sort of worker's paradise candyland funfair. But to say that all the protesters were commies is a gross and inaccurate generalization, and to accuse the whole 1970's-80's movement as 'bending over for uncle Jong-Il' based on the record of two administrations that came to power twenty years later seems a little illogical. If the last two Presidents are indeed buttering up for a little Nork fleischpikkel, it doesn't necessarily follow that democracy itself--or the aspiration towards it--is to blame. |

Yeah, and look how that turned out. If only the British had machine guns. |

I think it was. What did you call it? 'An illegal uprising?' Well, it was that as well. But when the government taxes you unfairly and gives you no representation, what else can a freedom loving patriot do but rise up and fight back? |

And I recall you said you liked Park Junghee, but what about Chun Doohwan? It's hard to paint him as anything but a monster. |
